Summary
The Fire Protection Engineer will support the fleet regulatory programs team at the Oconee Nuclear Station . The fleet Regulatory Programs team provides Fire Protection Program coverage at the sites within the Duke Energy Nuclear Fleet .
Responsibilities
Provide NFPA code and program expertise. Ensure site meets program compliance with codes, standards, fleet/site procedures and regulations.
Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems within the program.
Prepare and support NRC/INPO /NEIL inspections.
Monitor the testing and performance of the fire protection detection and protection systems
Review engineering changes for accuracy, program impact, and functional testing.
Develop and/or provide technical support in the development of surveillance testing, fire protection pre-plans, and impairment monitoring and reporting processes.
A ccurately communicate technical issues concisely in oral and written communication.
Provide field support to maintenance, operations and site services for Fire Protection related issues that cannot be resolved by the site Fire Marshall.
R eview and respond to fleet/ industry OE
Use LEAN principals to eliminate nonvalue-added work and improve efficien c ies within the program.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally .
Working Conditions
Office and plant environment requires walking, light lifting, infrequent climbing and occasional exposure to temperature, noise and radiation
Highly procedural and process-oriented structure, due to strict regulatory requirements
Must be able to work some weekends, holidays and overtime as needed
On-call duty responsibilities will apply
Ability to perform field walk-downs in an operating plant
Some travel off the Duke Energy system may be involved
Nuclear Engineer III – Basic /Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
4 – 6 years of engineering experience .
Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
Three years of fire protection engineering work responsibilities
Nuclear power plant experience
Membership in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE)
Ability to work as part of a team, be a self-starter, exercise flexibility, and take personal responsibility for assigned accountabilities

Experience with applying LEAN principals
Experience with CAS (Consolidated Asset Suite) and/or NAS (Nuclear Asset Suite)
Experience with general computer skills including Windows, e-mail, and Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
Specific Requirements
In lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified.
Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance.
This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed
Office and plant environments.
Additional hours expected as workload/business need requires.
Occasional overnight travel.
