STEAM PLANT OPERATOR

Location: Woodland, California

_ GENERAL SUMMARY_

This positions primary responsibility is to directly monitor and operate portions of the boiler, steam plant, water treatment plant and the balance facility. Responsible for general cleanliness as well as equipment condition of the boiler and associated equipment. Work is performed under direct supervision with results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.

_ PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES_

  • Complete log sheets in thorough and complete manner

  • Identify any respond to abnormalities and carry them to the furthest extent necessary; (work order, corrective actions, actions to place in a safe condition, place a phone call to management or maintenance personnel)

  • Monitor equipment for proper operation

  • Operate all equipment in a safe manner for both operator and equipment

  • Follow plant procedures at all times

  • Always be aware of, and abide by the information provided in UPP, SOP file, startup procedures and read files

  • Perform boiler and cooling tower chemistry analysis at prescribed times

  • Adjust flow rates or batch mix quantities to control cooling tower chemistry within prescribed margins

  • Press lime at the water plant at least once per shift

  • Clean cooling tower filters screens when required

  • Respond to plant abnormalities and take corrective actions in a cases such as plugged chute, jam rotary, plugged pressure taps, fires, chemical spills, conveyor malfunctions, tripped breakers, tripped overloads, high or low PH levels ect...

  • Perform weekly fire system checks

  • Perform inspections and audits as directed by supervisor

  • Perform special tests and data gathering as directed by supervisor

  • Rack in/out circuit breakers for 110V, 48V, 4160V and 13.8v switchgear

  • Load ash trucks and plant clean up as assigned.

  • Comply with all site safety requirements and procedures

  • Identifies safety hazards and takes corrective actions as necessary

  • Communicate well with other company personnel

  • Responds to abnormal and emergency operating situations in a safe and reasonable manner

  • Complete plant log sheet data collection for trend analysis and problem tracking

  • Complete log sheet to monitor tan levels

  • Expected to occasionally travel between sites

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

_ KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES_

A high school diploma or GED, with training on equipment, loaders, trucks and welding.

Experience in maintenance is preferred to provide for the following:

  • Ability to read and write and comprehend at a High School level effectively in English and do basic mathematics

  • Two years experience in power plant/water treatment/steam plant experience

  • One month of on the job training needed to be successful

  • Ability to use good judgment when making adjustments that are required for proper and smooth operation of water treatment and boiler chemistry systems

  • Proven use of good judgment in safety analysis, able to think through a cause/effect prior to taking any action

  • Successfully capable of troubleshooting when trying to determine the cause of water plant chemistry deviations

  • Use of good judgment when deciding to attempt to repair broken equipment or when a call for help or writing a work order is necessary

  • Using great decision making skills when actions are required to correct chemistry problems

  • Capable of making wise decisions when it comes time to clean an area or perform a task safely

  • Background in operating loaders; background in maintenance; past experience doing shift work

  • Ability to successfully mix fuel; and watch reclaimer and belts for fuel flow

  • Ability to put the fuel in correct row; unplugging system; working on PM’s

  • Knowledge of plant safety, policies and procedures, especially in area such as chemical handling, high-energy systems, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, and heavy equipment

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, management and the general public

  • Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respond to call-ins when contacted

  • Supervisory responsibilities for the following; Ammonia Driver, Acid Driver, and limestone truck driver

Employee will be frequently working near moving mechanical parts and must wear protective clothing and protective eyewear.

The employee in this classification will be required to regularly lift or move objects of up to 10 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to lift or move objects between 25 pounds to 100 pounds in weight.

Vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

_ WORKING CONDITIONS_

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The noise level in the work environment is moderate and occasionally may be loud.
