Job Summary

The Operations Lead II position provides management support for Supervisor of Operations. This position is responsible for assisting in planning, organizing, directing and controlling the work done within the assigned Operating area. The position also supports the management of Company employees and outside Contractors in the safe, reliable and cost effective installation and repair of UGI gas distribution facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support and monitor the compliance requirements of the company such as SLIP, ERT, Heath R, steel service retirements, of the assigned natural gas distribution systems, identify and anticipate malfunctions and direct corrective actions.

  • Assist in planning and designing both short-term and long-term activities that are performed by Company personnel, Contractors and long term projects that can last for years, such as system improvement projects, while ensuring that Operating records are maintained in a timely and accurate manner and regulatory requirements are met. Minimum 72 crew visits per year.

  • Handles all PA state permitting submission for Williamsport area, during vacation completes work for the other Ops Lead II with local municipality permitting for NB services and miscellaneous Operations work.

  • Work with service department employees as a group and individually to develop and enhance skills required to perform work in the most productive and safe manner possible. Work with training department to ensure that employees receive appropriate OQ training.

  • Assist in responding to and at times take a leadership role in emergency situations.

  • Perform other duties as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to motivate and guide a diverse work force.

  • Ability to perform in high pressure, emergency situations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.

  • Ability to multi-task effectively.

  • A good working knowledge of construction methods and practices related to the Natural Gas industry.

  • Demonstrated HVAC experience; mechanical ability to troubleshoot appliance issues as well as working knowledge of the IFGC (International Fuel Gas Code).

  • Knowledge of municipal codes and ability to converse and work effectively with municipalities.

  • Strong leadership aptitude, ability to communicate both written and verbally with union and management.

  • Ability to properly coach less experienced employees and provide tangible feedback.

Education and Experience

  • At least a High School Diploma plus 5 years progressive experience in the Natural Gas industry or B.S Degree with 1 to 2 years progressive experience in the Natural Gas industry.

  • Working knowledge of all PUC, DOT, and other federal, State, and local codes.

  • Working knowledge of the PNG P & M, UGI GOM, and labor laws is helpful.
