The Supervisor Supply Chain Logistics is responsible for providing support to the Logistics Manager, in supervising outbound logistics activities, related to the delivery of goods and backhauls throughout Duke Energy's service territories. The Suervisor Supply Chain Logistics is responsible for leading a team of Tractor Trailer Operators, Material handlers and Transportation Coordinators. This incumbent will own tactical operational plans to achieve ambitious goals outlined in the strategic plan. Direct reports will include individual contributors located in multiple geographies. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring safe operations and adherences to all company policies, as well as applicable federal and state regulations, managing sectional budget, defining and improving processes, managing relationships with Supply Chain leadership, dedicated contract carriers and business unit partners.
Responsibilities
Supervises Tractor Trailer Operators, Material Handlers, and Transportation Coordinators in multiple jurisdictions to meet individual, sectional and departmental goals
Performs management functions of staff selection, development, discipline, and performance reviews
Maintains a productive and motivated staff through strong leadership skills
Maintains positive relations through regular pre-shift meetings
Maintains employee morale, along with submitting and responding to ideas to improve engagement and enablement
Manages efficient delivery scheduling and effective routing plans to ensure optimal reliability
Responsible for continuous improvement, training and license/certifications in the work group
Develops staffing plans to determine supplemental workforce needs and most economical manner to address peaking demands
Makes recommendations for corrective action and/or behavior modification where required
Builds and maintains effective working relationships with multiple business partners and suppliers. Maintains close collaboration with business partner leaders to ensure requirements are met.
Manages contracted dedicated carriers that provide daily routes and deliveries to various sites throughout service territories
Responsible for business partner satisfaction of the assigned business area (i.e. fossil-hydro, transmission, distribution, nuclear, telecom, gas, etc.
Interfaces with Supply Chain Operations, and Business Unit leaders to determine optimal delivery service levels
Monthly meeting with Contracted Company’s leadership to review Safety and Performance metrics
Provides project management expertise for supply chain related tasks of projects involving changes to trucking and logistics network
Keeps open communication channels by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures
Ensures excellent support on planning and execution of outage restoration
Visits business locations and meets with partners to address issues and assess delivery difficulty
Attends outage management and project specific meetings on regular basis to ensure any trucking or logistics impacts are discussed and resolved
Organizes the team around specific storm restoration plans, including staffing, delivery, staging, etc.
Implements logistics optimization across jurisdictions and Business Unit segments, leverages analytical tools and data to implement new strategies
Effectively directs trucking and logistics of equipment, routes, cubing out trailers, and material handling techniques, reviews routing history, idle times, speeding, harsh movements and other changes to make appropriate recommendations
Reviews delivery functions and delivery reporting; suggests efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures and assist with implementation of delivery changes
Looks for opportunities to leverage empty backhauls across the region(s)
Sets individual and sectional goals to accomplish business objectives aligned with strategy
Ensures compliance with policies, training, standards and state and federal regulatory requirements (OSHA, SOX, DOT, financial asset accounting, etc. Understands union contracts and effectively addresses union issues as required.
Develops and manages budget
Develops and manages employee expenses and labor budget
Develops and manages contractor spend
Basic/Required Qualifications
Associates Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related degree and 3 years related work experience
OR High School/GED Degree and 5 years related work experience
Desired Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related degree
5 years related work experience
Associate for Supply Chain Management - APICS Certification (CLTD, CPIM, CSCP)
Previous experience leading craft and professional employees
Thorough knowledge of Logistics Operations and Supply Chain processes
Thorough understanding of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration - DOT Regulations, EPA SmartWay Program, OSHA and other local, state and federal regulatory agencies
Strong analytical skills
Thorough knowledge of computer applications including; Excel, Word, Powerpoint Outlook and Power BI
Previous role in storm/outage support
Previous experience with Telematics Applications and/or Transportation Management Systems
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated analytical skills
Effective organization/time management skills
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain good customer relations throughout the enterprise
Knowledge of customer operational processes and all material delivery equipment
Excellent knowledge of hazardous materials shipping regulations and DOT procedures/regulations
Previous experience in the Transportation/Trucking Operations field
Ability to lead and motivate team members
Demonstrated computer skills
Self-directed, with decision-making abilities

Working Conditions
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
General Office environment with occasional driving of light vehicles, site visits, meeting attendance. Performing observations (walking) of warehouses loading docks and equipment yards.
