New York Power Authority Senior Strategy Analyst in White Plains, New York
NYPA is building an internal strategic consulting function reporting to the SVP of Strategy and Corporate Development. The Senior Strategy Analyst will be crucial in building the function. The Senior Strategy Analyst works closely with the Strategy Manager on a variety of projects to advance NYPA’s mission. Projects will focus on various areas of the energy value stream covering generation, transmission and customer needs. The Senior Strategy Analyst will provide analytical horsepower to internal projects, typically in the areas of innovation, strategy development, or business transformation. Through project work, the Senior Strategy Analyst will develop key working relationships with executives across the organization
Initiatives that the Senior Strategy Analyst will help deliver, include
Energy investment analysis, business planning and operations improvement
Reimagine the canals campaign to re-energize a New York State Asset
Strategy development to pursue new opportunities / mitigate risks in the marketplace
Innovation projects that support the effective transformation of NYPA into a leading utility of the future.
The Senior Strategy Analyst is expected to be well-organized, exhibit a keen attention to detail, and display a passion for looking ways to optimize and make recommending improvements.
Frame hypotheses, and initiate research to find the answers.
Manage the execution of a workstream. This typically includes developing hypotheses, managing data collection, model creation and analyses, conducting primary and secondary research, creatively tackling information limitations, and surfacing insights.
Craft storylines that clearly articulate findings, insights, and recommendations
Liase with Key business functions to understand their business needs.
Support Strategy Manager in delivery of other key strategic projects and initiatives.
Effectively communicate key project findings and recommendations to various audiences (e.g., senior NYPA staff, internal and external stakeholders, etc.) by creating and delivering presentations.

Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing.
The group is looking for intellectually curious, creative, and driven individuals with proven experience or high potential for applying the management consulting toolkit.
Experience in management consulting or other similar strategic and demanding analytic environment.
Demonstrated interest or experience in energy/utilities, canals, economic development, issues is strongly preferred.
Experience across various business functions including Operations, IT, Finance, Procurement.
Strong quantitative skills (MS Excel) in financial modelling, business case development, etc. Must be able to identify and address data quality gaps, and ensure that data is utilized effectively.
Strong demonstrated written and oral communications and presentation skills utilizing MS PowerPoint and MS Word.
Ability to 'set up the problem manage projects against tight timelines, and work well in teams.
Ability to look at the big picture and search for insightful, creative solutions.
Ability to prioritize among competing needs and opportunities.
Enterprising, resourceful, and results oriented.
Pro-active, collaborative and strategic.
Education, Experience and Certifications
2+ years of experience in strategy consulting required. Breadth across functions is attractive.
Strong background in conceptual problem solving and analytical skills.
Track record of performing against tight deadlines in a demanding environment.
Outstanding communication skills; confidence in presenting to senior executives.
Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in Business/Economics, Engineering, or other related/applicable discipline)
- Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State, some out of state travel.
