New York Power Authority Senior Energy Forecast Analyst in White Plains, New York
The Senior Energy Forecast Analyst is responsible for conducting data analytics and financial modeling in support of asset optimization and risk mitigation for NYPA and its customers.
Monitor and forecast energy and congestion prices for NY and the neighboring regions including, PJM, NEISO, HQ, Ontario.
Support the development of a hedging strategy for NYPA by assisting with the structure and execution of various commercial and financial transactions.
Provide monthly updates of correlations and volatilities of energy, capacity, and natural gas markets.
Provide analysis of our hydro river flows for Niagara and STL and provide correlation values to established weather data sites for precipitation on the great lakes. Evaluate weather and precipitation contracts as a hedging option for our hydro volume uncertainty.
In conjunction with the NYPA Hydrologist, assess different hydro forecast models and develop improvements.
Develop and provide necessitated updates to NYPA’s official forward price curve on a monthly basis for use in the Operating Forecast and the Long Range Financial Plan as well as the annual Cost of Service for the NYC governmental customers as per their long term agreement.
Support/Lead in the development and review of energy and financial models and run sensitivities in support of NYPA’s efforts in evaluating new business opportunities.
Develop the powerflow analysis and production cost analysis and be able to inform the management of various system outcomes in terms of production cost savings, congestion analysis, LBMP impact, and environmental impacts.
Develop monthly generation and dispatch models for hypothetical scenarios.
Analyze the impact of a changing regulatory environment on NYPA, its assets, and NYPA’s customers.
Provide an in-depth review and approval of the monthly hydro forecast.
Provide assistance to the Power Resource Planning group in developing the long term Integrated Resource Plan and for blending our fourth year of forward prices with their 20 year model.
Support and develop team metrics with KRIs and KPIs.
Create and deliver presentations on market fundamentals and energy forecasts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Subject matter expertise in the energy and gas markets. Good understanding of and ability to use complex energy models. Ability to generate stochastic analysis, quantitative analysis.
Experience solving problems with machine learning, AI, and/or statistical analysis.
Proficient in Excel.
Good understanding of financial and business concepts, with experience using supply/demand market fundamentals to develop forecasts and/or asset optimization strategies.
Experience valuing a variety of structured products such as tolling agreements, heat rate options, unit contingent deals, etc.
Good understanding of portfolio risk concepts, with exposure to trading strategies, preferred.
Experience with GE-MAPS or other production cost models, preferred.
Ability to formulate presentations and effectively communicate the information.
Strong analytic skills.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Economics, or Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
Minimum 7 years of demonstrated experience, and strongly utilized analytical skills with an emphasis in the electric utility industry.
Expert knowledge of NYPA’s unique generating assets and of the NYISO preferred.
May require travel to attend conferences and customer meetings.
Travel is primarily within New York State.
