Manager Supplier Relationship
The Manager, Supplier Performance Management plays a vital role facilitating communication and business relationships with external suppliers. Reporting to the Director of Supplier Relationship Management, this position will develop and execute strategies for the Strategic Supplier Management function. This position will be responsible to ensure NYPA operates in a strategic and goal-oriented manner by enabling the goals of the Supplier Relationship Management and Strategic Supply Management (SSM) groups. NYPA is looking for a Manager, Supplier Performance Management, based in White Plains, NY Office with responsibility for, but not limited to:
Supplier Performance Management process;
Supplier development and Supplier performance initiatives;
Supplier Registration and On-boarding; and Vendor Vetting Requirements
Supplier Metrics and Analytics
Initial responsibilities include assisting the planning and development of Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) organization; after which, the responsibilities will breakdown as follows:
70% Supplier Performance Management
Supplier Relationship Management
Develop, launch and provide oversight to new supplier performance and development strategy in alignment with NYPA and SSM goals and objectives, including the Supplier Performance Management Strategy and Planning, Supplier Scorecards, Supplier Business Reviews, etc
Lead a team of Analysts responsible for the verification of supplier process capability, supplier performance monitoring (Including Score Card support), and concern resolution process leadership); implementation of Supplier Quality and Development Procedures; introduction of Lean principles and coordination with Project Management, Operations, and SSM organizations, as appropriate.
Improve performance levels to achieve goals through coordination of supplier workshops, improvement meetings, etc.
Provide oversight and central administration support for SIPM
Review and ensure compliance to established evaluation processes. Audit supplier qualification data to accuracy and completeness.
the Supplier Performance Management team will lead the strategic development and implementation of programs and policies to insure continuous improvement of supplier development & performance.
Support the development of policies, procedures, formats and processes to improve supplier quality and supplier development initiatives.
Support the development of performance metrics and procedures with suppliers to facilitate key supplier management initiatives.
Support training and development of root cause and corrective action planning, and Lean principles
Provide day-to-day oversight for Supplier Performance Management team.
Support the mitigation of Supplier Risk in conjunction with NYPA stakeholders.
In conjunction with SSM team, Identify, develop and embed best practice in within the Supplier Performance Management process.
Strategic implementation of processes and procedures to address supplier performance deficiencies.
Manage critical supplier issues. Involve the greater organization as appropriate.
Develop/ Update training material as required.
Manage tracking and auditing of supplier performance initiatives.
Lead the development and implementation of the process, procedures and instructions for effective registration and on-boarding of new suppliers to the Authority
Lead and facilitate the usage of Ariba Supplier Performance and Information Management and manage compliance of Supplier Performance and Registration processes and procedures.
15% Category Management
Execute models to evaluate supplier capabilities with respect to expertise, industry, capacity, quality, operating model, financial stability, strategic positioning in the market, etc. Report on any discrepancies and develop recommendations for resolution.
Lead the working management of mutually beneficial and strategic relationships with new and existing suppliers to drive improvements in key business areas (cost, risk, delivery, quality, etc.) and support contract negotiation.
Assist in driving opportunities to increase utilization of local and diverse suppliers through identification, communications, strategic sourcing and progress reporting.
5% Contract Management
Ownership of communications with the Contract Management Team on supplier related contracts, monitoring adherence and performance. Compare contract terms and agreements against the supplier’s performance related variables.
Collaborate on creative solutions, such as detailed cost modelling, to improve supplier performance
Provide analytic support for SSM organization.
10% Leading high priority projects that impact Procurement function
- Maintain knowledge of other initiatives / projects in the company that may interact with / affect SSM’s performance and operations and collaborate with necessary stakeholders.

Breadth and depth of knowledge of supply chain management concepts in procurement, receiving, supplier relationship management, and equipment management, and ability to demonstrate mastery in several of these areas.
Breadth and depth of knowledge of social economics, accounting principles, the concept of total cost of ownership (TCO), cost management and process improvement, and ability to demonstrate mastery in several of these areas.
Deep procurement experience with the proven ability to establish supplier relationship to drive compliance and performance.
Familiarity with Ariba (or other electronic score carding system) Supplier Information and Performance Management system – strongly Preferred
Working knowledge of SAP
Strong knowledge of the Power Utility services and equipment categories and/or supply market – Preferred
Short-term execution and long-term strategic thinking capabilities, ability to multitask with a sense of urgency
Ability to analyze data and synthesize insightful conclusions/ recommendations to management
Comfort/ familiarity with constructing presentations, organization communications, and business cases.
Ability to interface with external resources and internal resources at all levels.
Proven experience developing and implementing policies and procedures – Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Information Management, or similar.
Advanced degree – Preferred
CPM/CPSM, CSCP or equivalent certification – Preferred
Minimum 7 years of leadership/management experience with large and/or complex work efforts.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a procurement organization, clearly exposed and performing Strategic Sourcing and/or Supplier Relationship Management.
Minimum 3 years of experience in the Utilities industry – Preferred
