New York Power Authority Director Digital Transformation Office in White Plains, New York

Summary

The Director Digital Transformation provides strategic direction to the organization and drives the transformation of business and organizational activities, processes, competencies and models by leveraging digital technology in a prioritized fashion, with present and future shifts in mind, combined with effective performance management. The ideal candidate must be familiar with digital technology and digital technological evolutions as they relate to the utility sector. The Director assumes a leadership role in developing a strategic digital technology roadmap, and implementation plan that is guided by NYPA’s strategic objectives. The Director leads the Digital Transformation Office (DTO); providing guidance to DTO portfolio managers, project owners, sponsors and executives that lead to results.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a digital road map that delivers on NYPA’s strategy/business needs and translate into business requirements and inter-connected projects with defined resources, tasks and schedules required to develop and deliver business solutions

  • Identify and evaluate development digital transformation opportunities in all areas of the business

  • Portfolio management - align inflight, and new projects into programs and digital work streams; shepherd projects through the initiation, planning execution, performance/monitoring and close out phases

  • Provide strategic guidance to business unit heads and project sponsors, ensuring that all projects are developed using project management best practices, and in accordance with NYPA policies, procedures and business objectives

  • Monitor all projects and deliver key metrics that drive performance and decision making

  • Navigate left-right (across topics) and up-down (strategy/details); maintain communication with senior management and executives on health of projects; intervene/escalate as necessary to keep projects on track

  • Facilitate cross-project communications to ensure that there is no redundancy and resources are optimally assigned

  • Maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

  • Assess portfolio, program and project performance and make required adjustments to deliver results

  • Provide leadership to DTO portfolio managers and staff throughout the organization

  • Develop and mentor DTO team members to improve their capabilities to execute their responsibility and deliver value to the organization

  • Developand control budgets, activities and deadlines

  • Apply proven change, risk and resource management

  • Participate and speak at industry events, trainings, and conferences as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In-depth understanding of digital technology and digital technological evolution as it relates to the electric utility

  • Substantial knowledge of related disciplines, and understanding of the effects on the Authority and its stakeholders and customers.

  • Aware of changes and advancements in the industry, and ability to maintain industry-wide expertise

  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods

  • Ability to make recommendations and inspire change across multiple levels of the organization – from individual engineers and program managers to business unit leaders and the executive management committee. A “self-starter” approach to tackle a range of issues is essential

  • Ability to understand technical issues at a high level when collaborating with engineers and other internal or external stakeholders

  • Ability to communicate complex and technical information to a diverse, non-technical audience in a comprehensible manner, including NYPA senior management

  • Excellent knowledge of performance evaluation and change management principles

  • Strong leadership, communication, project delivery and entrepreneurial skills.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail

  • Comfortable working in a “matrix-type” structure with relatively little initial guidance

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university.

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical,Computer Engineering.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Utility field.

  • Five years of experience as a Program Manager or other managerial position.
