Job Description

Business Development (BD) is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and other assignments as well as the development of major asset additions. BD ensures NYPA infrastructure portfolio is aligned with its mission and strategy. BD is responsible for developing and investing in the infrastructure necessary to provide reliable, low cost energy to our customers and it may also lead NYPAs compliance with public policy initiatives such as support of New York State’s Clean Energy Standard.

  • Work with Business Development Managers in orgination and development of project proposals;

  • Develop innovative ideas and challenge accepted practices to identify competitive solutions or commercially viable applications;

  • Provide technical leadership for the identification and assessment of Business Development opportunities;

  • Assess technical system studies performed by others including powerflow analysis and production cost analysis;

  • Act as a technical liaison between Business Development and external stakeholders including the NYISO and development partners;

  • Perform technical due diligence in the evaluation for acquisition of large scale renewable, energy storage, and electric transmission assets;

  • Perform powerflow analysis necessary to supplement analysis by others or to identify a project scope that will be analyzed in greater detail by others;

  • Contribute in the performance of technical, economic and regulatory analyses of conceptual projects;

  • Develop Financial Models;

  • Evaluate new business opportunities by building and reviewing wholesale market impact models and financial models and proposing and running sensitivities.

  • Develop consultant scopes of work and related procurement documentation to retain consultants for the performance of technical analysis;

  • Manage consultant performance including technical analysis quality and commercial administration of contracts;

  • Act as a liaison between Business Development and other NYPA stakeholders in the solicitation, evaluation, and implementation of new project ideas;

  • Prepare and perform presentations to senior management or external stakeholders as required;

  • Collaborate with NYPA departments by providing backup documentation for Legal, Finance and other departments.

  • Participate in industry events, training's, meetings as needed;

  • Perform other assignments as assigned.

  • Demonstrated drive to meet deadlines individually and within a team setting

  • Experience and working knowledge of NYISO planning processes, wholesale markets and tariff is preferred;

  • Proficiency with system analysis software, PSS/E is required.

  • Familiarity with production cost software, MAPS, PROMOD, or Gridview is preferred;

  • Familiarity with large scale rewewable, energy storage, and/or electric transmission technologies is strongly desired;

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.

  • Proficiency in statistical analysis is preferred.

  • Ability to assess relative cost implications between multiple solutions at a high level.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Field (e.g. Engineering, Physics, etc) is required.

  • Advanced degree in Finance or Business Administration or related field is preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with production cost or powerflow modeling is required.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience with the NYISO electric market is preferred;

  • Minimum of 5 years electric system design experience is preferred;

  • NY State Professional Engineers License preferred.

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Requires 10% travel primarily within NY State
