Asset Strategy Business Analyst
The Strategic Operations Team is leading the development and implementation of the Asset Management (AM) and Smart Generation & Transmission (G&T) Strategic Initiatives. These form part of NYPA’s Strategic Vision 2014-2019 and are aimed at providing both NYPA and New York State with the most advanced grid in the industry and to ensure that the most modern industry solutions are leveraged to deliver capability in key areas. Ultimately, asset management will pave the way for increased benefits to customers by providing the State with market leading management of future technologies, management of enterprise wide assets, alignment to cutting edge standards of asset maintenance and replacement, near-real-time access to information and predictive analysis, improved outage management, overall reduced electrical losses, and increased system efficiency.
The Asset Analyst performs a pivotal role in delivering the envisioned operational/financial/strategic benefits to NYPA through implementation of various process improvements in collaboration with multiple cross-discipline project teams, including but not limited to the following:
S/he will maintain working functional knowledge of business needs and practices for the Utility Operations major processes. Conduct complex analyses and leads cross-functional teams using appropriate process improvement methodologies that further organizational and strategic goals, identifying and analyzing current-state processes and issues, and support process integration throughout NYPA’s Asset Management System.
S/he is also responsible for overall program progress tracking and reporting. If any projects are falling behind, s/he will identify the cause, propose solutions, and serve as an enabler to work through the bottlenecks with the project teams.
S/he will also cultivate and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, and communicate clearly with project teams, and redirect those who deviate from the strategy back onto the right track. S/he will work collaboratively with stakeholder groups to analyze their business requirements and ensure alignment with overall objectives.
The Asset Analyst will also support the spread of Asset Management culture at an enterprise wide level, serve as the lead communication liaison to and be the champion of change for continuous improvement opportunities.
Assist with day-to-day coordination with vendors and contractors for the development, implementation, and training of new asset management information systems and operation’s technology platforms.
Support the management and implementation of elements of the strategic asset management plan and overall organization roadmap.
Work with the Asset Strategy Manager to manage the key NYPA asset management teams with an emphasis on strategic asset management solutions.
Coordination with NYPA Strategic Operations and the Operational Performance for the integrated implementation of asset management solutions.
Support the development and implementation of the overall asset performance strategy and metrics.
Support identification and management of stakeholder expectations and performance objectives.
Support the development and management of the asset management system (ISO55001) and alignment of NYPA to best-in-class asset management practices.
Coordination with the Operational Performance to implement asset management practices and maintain enterprise infrastructure.
Identifying opportunities for improvements in Utility Operations
Analyze/audit existing business processes to identify improvement opportunities or gaps where new processes/controls are needed
Establish and lead / facilitate cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement projects within Utility Operations to support Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost objectives.
Work with the Process Excellence team to support the incorporate and adoption of lean principles into Utility Operations.
Work with Operational Performance to identify and lead studies and develop and implement plans and programs to support the continuous improvement of Utility Operations.
Development of business cases for Utility Operations business improvement initiatives
Main point of contact for Process Improvement tools and approaches in Utility Operations
Anticipate bottlenecks, provide management escalation, prioritize and execute projects, and balance business needs vs. technical constraints.
Proven knowledge and application of process excellence, lean six sigma methodology, business analysis, reengineering, and process modeling. Must be a hands-on resource who has demonstrated the ability to (1) apply lean six sigma methodology; (2) analyze and document processes using tools like process mapping, in-process metrics and other process measurement techniques; (3) use these results to recommend process improvements and operations metrics dashboard based on the sponsor's goals and objectives; (4) work with the project sponsor, champion and team members to identify and implement improvements; and (5) deliver results handling multiple priorities.

Demonstrated substantial technical asset management skills
Demonstrated stakeholder management and an ability to communicate solutions to multiple independent stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience as a key contributor to the successful completion of projects including abilities to adjust to changing priorities both independently and in team settings.
Ability to work closely with a team to accomplish a common objective. Ability to independently lead a major work stream while coordinating with other team members to identify inter-work stream dependencies and risks, and develop and carry out mitigation steps.
Excellent interpersonal skills, and engagement in continuous learning.
Substantial knowledge of Enterprise Asset Management systems and/or other applications, such as Maximo, GIS, SAP and Microsoft Office.
Ability to understand and use standard report and project management tools.
Ability to perform objective analyses and business processes mapping to maximize quality service and cost-effectiveness.
Ability to prioritize and plan work with respect to project schedules, and deliver results in a timely manner
Excellent planning, organization and presentation skills in order to communicate to all audience levels
Excellent analytic and problem solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication essential to ascertain present and future customer needs and to write system documentation; strong presentation skills utilizing MS PowerPoint and MS Word.
Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Visio or other business process modeling and analytical tools.
Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State
Ability to travel to project sites to conduct on site evaluations and vendor coordination
Valid NYS Driver’s License
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from a school accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), preferred but not required
Industrial Engineering, Economics or Business Administration Degrees, Engineering Leadership or Minors is strongly preferred.
Certification in Lean methods; Lean Six Sigma preferred (green or black belt)
Minimum of 7 years of business improvement or related experience
Minimum of 5 years of electric utility industry experience or related experience in another industry
