Eversource Energy Substation Civil/Structural Design Engineer – Gr. 3 / Gr. 4 (Hybrid) in Westwood, Massachusetts

Hours:Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Rate ofPay:Gr. 3: $46.21 per hour / Gr. 4:$65.29 per hour

This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office. Some field work at substations under construction around eastern MA will be required.

Summary:

This position will be primarily devoted to creating and updating civil/structural standards for the organizationto align engineering work products across three states (MA, CT, NH). Civil/structural tasks assisting various projects will also be assigned. Typical projects include overhead and underground electrical structures, foundations, vaults, walls, and modification of buildings to accommodate new equipment.

Essential Functions:

-Prepare calculations, specifications, and drawings in collaboration with engineers and designers of other grades and disciplines, and with outside contractors and consultants.

-Help prepare and assemble civil/structural bid packages for construction of new transmission and distribution substations and upgrades of existing substations

-Take field measurements, assess field conditions, and make appropriate recommendations for design consideration

-Incorporate the needs of other departments such as Environmental, Safety, Operations, Security, and Siting

-Attend pre-bid construction meetings with construction contractors and help answer any bidder questions

-Revise designs and incorporate as built information for project close out

-Learn various software and systems used for substation design

-Prepare engineering sketches by hand and with software

-Understand and adhere to various building codes and industry regulations

-Observe construction progress as required to assure compliance with design documents

-Review contractor submittals and construction test reports

-Retain examples of your engineering work if you intend to seek Professional Engineer (PE) registration (recommended)

Qualifications:

Gr. 3

1. Engineering education as evidenced by a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (BSCE).

2. This is the entering rating for the engineering school graduates with Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (BSCE).

3. Must evidence interest and aptitude necessary for successful progress in the engineering profession.

4. Must possess personality traits such as alertness, self-reliance, poise, tact and the ability to maintain harmonious relations with their associates.

Gr. 4

1. Engineering education as evidenced by a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (BSCE).

2. Must have demonstrated, during service in the lower ratings of capabilities not normally developed in less than 5 years’ service in such ratings, for performing the complex and diversified work activities of the grade with a high degree of proficiency and responsibility. This period of time, however, shall not be construed as an inflexible work experience requirement.

3. In addition to the personal qualifications required of the lower grades, must have during their service in the lower ratings demonstrated capabilities, interest, and aptitude for the work of Engineer, Grade 4.

4. Must have demonstrated personality traits such as accuracy, initiative, judgment, originality and attention to detail.

5. Must have demonstrated qualities of leadership and the ability to plan work for, to coordinate and direct the activities of, and to work with individuals and groups engaged in engineering and technical activities.
