Become a Fire Investigation Engineer 1 in the Fire Investigation Preliminary Analysis (FIPA) team within the Asset Strategy & Planning (ASP) organization at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll perform root cause analysis to determine how fires and other significant events occur so that lessons learned can be feedback into SCE’s wildfire mitigation strategies.

This successful candidate will work collaboratively with a wide range of cross-functional groups across SCE within engineering as well as field personnel teams (i.e. with apparatus engineers, field engineers, planning, and training) in investigation of ignition events, failed equipment to determine the cause and make recommendations to reduce the likelihood of future ignitions. A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Conduct root cause investigation and failure analysis of ignition events.

  • Develop recommendation to mitigate and reduce the likelihood of ignition. Recommendations could include changes to design standards, work practices, material used, constructions standards, and inspection criteria.

  • Work with key Subject Matter Experts (i.e. troublemen, other engineers) to drive solutions for issues rising from standard updates.

  • Undertake projects and multi-functional challenges that often require collaboration with cross-functional teams.


The essentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related STEM field

  • 0-3 years of engineering experience

The preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Access

  • Some knowledge in power apps, power automate, and/or Python a plus

  • Experience in leading and/or participating in cross-functional teams to address and solve business and engineering issues

  • Experience developing ideas and presenting technical information effectively to diverse audiences through oral presentations and written communications

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
