Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
This position is a Pre-Construction Inspector within Southern California Edison (SCE)’s Transmission & Distribution organization unit in Power Delivery’s Distribution Business Line. The successful candidate will focus on activities conducted during the Planning phase of the work order IPSEC lifecycle: Initiate, Plan, Schedule, Execute, and Close. These activities include duct and trench inspections, mandrelling, and structure inspections. This position will report directly to the Local Planning Supervisor.
Typical Responsibilities :
Coordinates and executes all activities related to inspections in a timely manner by effectively prioritizing and managing assignments to completion in order to facilitate high productivity without sacrificing customer satisfaction.
Ensures that all district designs meet customers’ electrical service needs, while adhering to Distribution Design Standards, Electrical Service Requirements, and Construction/Maintenance standards.
Proactively identify constructability issues when inspecting projects, propose solutions, and take corrective action so work orders are 100% executable when they are ready to be scheduled.
Coordinates and executes jobsite visits during construction to explore opportunities for improvement with foreman and keep planners informed of progress and status of projects in an effort to ensure completion of project by customer commitment data.
Respond in a timely manner to address and resolve customer concerns related to Inspection activities such as duct, trench, and structure inspection.
Serve as a resource to crews, foremen, and supervisors by identifying potential safety hazards with work order designs during inspection activities and propose solutions to alleviate such concerns and maintaining technical knowledge and expertise needed to safely and effectively prep jobs and support IPSEC process.
Create and maintain a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.

Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Two or more years of experience in Utility Construction, Civil Construction or Civil Engineering.
Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Associate’s Degree in applicable profession, business, or technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Two or more years of experience reading and understanding work order drawings, surveys and utility substructure maps.
Experience applying time management skills to planning and organizing a heavy workload.
Experience with utility underground construction practices, specifications and requirements, including the Underground Structures (UGS) Manual, GO128 and related industry standards.
Basic knowledge and experience with safe work practices, basic electrical theory, construction/maintenance standards, and the electric distribution system.
Experience working both independently and in a team environment to meet shared goals and objectives.
Experience interfacing and collaborating with internal and external customers.
Good communication skills both written and verbal.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Relocation does not apply to this position.
Position will require up to 80% traveling and being out in the field within the assigned district.
