Your Impact at SAM
We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Survey Crew Chief to join our team! This position is based in Ohio and will require extensive travel—up to 100% of the time—to support a variety of land survey projects across different locations. If you enjoy working in the field, leading crews, and being part of dynamic, hands-on work, this is the opportunity for you.
What You’ll Do:
Lead the daily field operations of a land survey crew across diverse project sites
Develop and implement the most efficient strategies for data acquisition, from primary control to construction layout and as-built surveys
Accurately document all work performed, including field notes and sketches
Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Project Surveyor and CAD technician regarding project progress and schedules
Interact professionally with client representatives and property owners
Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project tolerances
Prepare detailed daily reports, time sheets, and required project documentation
Maintain the survey vehicle and ensure all field equipment is in good working condition
Perform other related duties as needed
What You Bring to SAM
5+ years of industry experience, prior crew chief experience is preferred
Competent operating total stations, GNSS receivers, data collectors, and tablet PCs
Experience with Trimble equipment is preferred
Strong communication skills (listening, writing and verbal)
Proven work history, strong work ethic, and team-player attitude
Ability to travel for extended periods of time
Ability to work in all-weather climates
Ability to walk long distances through a variety of terrains and carry up to 80lbs
Must have a valid driver's license
