Under directive supervision, operates assigned equipment and assists other operators with such duties as:
Operates, monitors, and inspects environmental associated equipment such as:
atomizers, vessels, pumps, compressors, byproduct and dust disposal apparatus, lime and recycle slurry apparatus, chillers, feeders, activated carbon injection equipment, batteries, breakers, etc. utilizing plant digital control and programmable logic control interfaces
Cleans, lubricates, and paints equipment
Prepares and performs LOTO/clearance orders for mechanical and electrical equipment utilizing software programs or manually from prints and P&ID’s
Takes readings as required, observes and records specified data relative to assigned equipment operation; maintains an electronic logbook record of activities during an assigned shift (if available)
Collect and review data to prepare reports (i.e. status reports) for environmental documentation, chemical condition, and the operating status of plant equipment / processes
Submits electronic work requests (notifications) for identified deficiencies on plant equipment
Makes minor repairs and replacements to equipment and monitors processes such as:
connecting/disconnecting the atomizer; water and dust leaks; adjusting manual packing on water and steam valves under 200psi; replacing sight glasses; painting; replacing indication lamps; replacing incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs for the safe performance of their job
Conducts environmental equipment plant housekeeping in areas such as: SDA building, Lime Preparation Building, Byproduct Recycle Building, PJFF, Activated Carbon Injection Building, associated grounds
Performs lime quality analysis testing
Performs other similar and related work as assigned
The Environmental Operator may be placed on day / afternoon / or night shift. Must be willing to work an irregular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. This position is located at JH Campbell Unit 3.
High school diploma or GED required
Must have had at least one year of experience in related work
Must pass a POSS assessment prior to employment
Satisfactory completion of a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) background check required under NERC regulations
Must have the aptitude and capacity to perform the duties of higher rated jobs in this occupational group
Must understand the practical principles involved in the operation of simple machinery
Must be able to meet current Operator Certification training for plant-specific equipment (see Certified Operator Duties)
Must be able to wear PPE including but not limited to:
PAPR, half mask respirator, full face respirator, chemical protection suit, rubber gloves, rubber boots, face shield, etc.
- Military OR Civilian experience (power plant operator, turbine room, boiler room) and/or sewage/wastewater treatment plant experience
Hours and Travel
Must possess a valid driver’s license. Maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite. Meet travel requirements of the position. Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

He/she must be able to traverse the power plant to inspect and operate all plant related equipment
The employee must meet vision requirements to include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Temperature conditions within the plant can fluctuate and can reach above 100 degrees; in addition, should they need to evaluate outdoor equipment, the individual will be exposed to outdoor temperatures that fluctuate with weather conditions
