Position Summary

This position is responsible for supporting the Nuclear Capital projects department through tracking project schedules, analyzing and development of financial reports and project controls practices including; project authorizations, cost, work order and cost reporting for capital projects. Coordinates with Project Controls Team and Project Managers to assemble cost data, analyze data and provide integrated reporting. Assists Project Managers in developing estimates, providing accurate forecasting of project expenditures and analyzing actuals costs incurred.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Evaluates capital projects schedules and interviews Project Managers to validate project scope inclusion in schedule. Defines critical path and validates that the project schedule is in compliance with the specific project Cost Activity Report. Provides project cost tracking and reporting to management and other project controls services as requested.

  • Works in conjunction with Project Scheduling, Technical Support Specialist, Finance, Accounting and other areas of Xcel Energy and Nuclear to integrate all financial aspects and impacts for Capital Projects. The aspects include, but are not limited to: monthly forecasting, long range forecasting, accrual development, estimate reviews and actual cost analysis. Recommends resources as needed for additional project schedule and cost development.

  • Responsible for understanding and integrating capital cost reporting tools and applications, including the Project Management System. Demonstrates super user capabilities with the Project Management System. Utilizes available and developed tools to provide Project Management with the information necessary to make decisions about their projects.

  • Assists other project personnel in preparing monthly project KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and project status and cost reports and various project portfolio cost analyses. Promotes fleet projects concept and communicates and establishes the Project Controls function with the fleet. Understands, demonstrates and communicates the use of Work Breakdown Structures in project cost control.

  • Understands and applies project controls metrics, including but not limited to Earned Value Analysis, Cost Performance Index and Schedule Performance Index and work order completion. Provides individual and group training to project personnel regarding project controls and metrics.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS/BA Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Project Management or technical field (or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge) and relevant experience with project planning, cost estimating, forecasting and financial analysis. Minimum of five (5) years related project controls experience. Practical knowledge of overall project control, estimating, and reporting methods and working knowledge in scheduling and cost control for application in project cost estimating, organization, and control. Detailed knowledge of project planning, scheduling, and monitoring/control methods and practices. Comprehensive understanding of company policies, procedures and financial obligations that would apply to projects. Proficient in standard server software applications such as e-mail, spreadsheet, word processing, database and access.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $71,900.00 to $102,100.00 per year
