Job Summary

Health Physics Technician T1

Participates primarily in classroom training learning the basic concepts of radiological protection. Performs frisker source checks and routine decontamination procedures. Collects routine radiological air samples. Issues respiratory protection and Health Physics Instrumentation. Performs laundry facility duties.

Health Physics Technician T2

Performs routine radiological surveys, sampling and analysis to determine radiation hazards. Performs radiological surveys and samples and documents results to ensure compliance with established procedures and limits. Performs operability checks, calibration and repair, of various health physics instrumentation. Attends formal classroom training sessions and maintains acceptable academic standards. Performs assigned duties in support of the Emergency Response Team. Updates and maintains routine personnel exposure records.

Health Physics Technician T3

Monitors and controls internal/external personnel exposure, contamination, radioactive materials and waste. Performs routine and specialized radiological surveys. Provides Health Physics job coverage for radiological work activities. Installs and maintains ventilation units for airborne radioactivity. Monitors and assesses internal personnel exposure. Performs decontamination of personnel, small tools and contaminated areas.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Health Physics Technician T1

0-1 year of related experience;

Successful completion of TECH Test. Good math skills and ability;

Must be able to fulfill duties as directed for Station Emergency Plan to include obtaining and maintaining required ERO/SERO qualifications, participation in ERO/SERO exercises and drills, verifying availability through response to ERO/SERO call in drills.

Health Physics Technician T2

Completion of step one of the Health Physics Technician Development Program or equivalent knowledge and experience (minimum 1-2 years directly related experience).

Must be able to fulfill duties as directed for Station Emergency Plan to include obtaining and maintaining required ERO/SERO qualifications, participation in ERO/SERO exercises and drills, verifying availability through response to ERO/SERO call in drills.

Health Physics Technician T3

Completion of the first three steps of the Health Physics Technician Development Program or equivalent knowledge and experience (minimum 2-3 years directly related experience).

Must be able to fulfill duties as directed for Station Emergency Plan to include obtaining and maintaining required ERO/SERO qualifications, participation in ERO/SERO exercises and drills, verifying availability through response to ERO/SERO call in drills.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Associate

Preferred discipline(s): Technical

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
