Job Description

WGL is seeking an experienced Senior Supplier Diversity Specialist to develop and support short /long term strategies (internal/external/market) and provide technical support and industry knowledge for all aspects of the supplier diversity program management across the enterprise. The ideal candidate identifies opportunities to expand supplier diversity programs by using benchmarking data, best practices, and peer to peer reviews to achieve goals.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Leads the execution of the organization wide Supplier Diversity strategy with internal stakeholders, by establishing discrete goals and continually seeking innovative options to expand our pool of diversified vendors.

  • Develops and Maintains strong relationships with external stakeholders (vendors, advocacy groups, peers, commissions)

  • Demonstrates a proven track record of implementing policies/ programs within organizations to reflect leading practice

  • Establishes effective internal / external communication strategies to ensure ongoing awareness of the program at all levels within the organization and continually attracts new potential vendors

  • Develops strategies for all aspects of the supplier diversity program, including annual supplier diversity plans/BU goals/Tier 1 and Tier 2 expansion and compliance with corporate and regulatory supplier diversity goals

  • Responsible to comply with the WG/ALA merger commitments

  • Creates and maintains Washington Gas’s tier 2 supplier diversity program and works directly with the prime suppliers to drive tier 2 efforts and build network of diverse supplier utilization

  • Administers the tier 2 locator supplier diversity database, including managing and monitoring the Washington Gas supplier diversity registration process and analyzing and generating tier 2 reports detailing spend, usage, and cost.

  • Creates and manages Tier 1 expansion program (with established annual goals)

  • Develops commission(s)/regulatory related reports and represents the company in commission(s)/regulatory events

  • Assists vendors in obtaining diversity certification and manages certification status updates

  • Develops and manages all supplier diversity communications including website content, registration portal, tier 2 portal and membership affiliation updates

  • Represents the Company at supplier diversity trade shows and external events to support the program’s expansion and to heighten program awareness and strengthen vendor engagement and relationships

  • Conducts events (matchmaking, peer to peer reviews) and identifies and leads implementation of best industry practices

  • Manages stakeholders (internal/external) and educates business partners to expand supplier diversity knowledge and engagement opportunities to increase diverse spend

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Communications, Public Relations or related field

  • 5+ Years of experience in supplier diversity and communications

  • Proven ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors, peers and external audiences.

  • Experience with computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, Advanced Excel and CVM Solutions for data management and reporting purposes.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data

  • Strong public speaking skills / experience

  • Demonstrated ability to present ideas logically and concisely to diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing

  • Ambitious self-starter who plans, prioritizes, manages, and completes tasks within a fast paced, deadline driven schedule

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supplier Diversity Certification(s) preferred

  • Experience developing minority outreach strategy, writing program plans, development and delivery of program training modules

  • Experience reviewing policy, legislative, regulatory requirements

  • Strong knowledge of general supply chain principles in the utility and energy industries
