Summary
Federal Affairs Representative - Works with the Vice President (VP), Federal Affairs in Washington, DC to represent the company to the federal government on proposed legislation that is of vital concern to the company and customers.
What your day would be like:
You are responsible for:
Helps ensure credible and professional relationships are developed and maintained with legislators, trade associations, various heads of federal agencies, and their staff in order to influence public policy decisions impacting Pinnacle West.
Assists the VP in monitoring the progress of legislative and regulatory issues of interest to the company, and provides analysis to company officials.
Prepares and organizes forums and gatherings with government officials to exchange ideas and information on business activities and potential legislation that may affect the organization.
Minimum Requirements
Federal Affairs Representative
Bachelor's degree in political science, federal policy or a related field
AND a minimum of five (5) years of experience in high level corporate public and government affairs positions, including established relationships with the highest levels of elected and appointed officials at the federal level.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong problem solving and decision making abilities required.
Federal Affairs Representative, Senior
Bachelor's degree in political science, federal policy or a related field
AND a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in high level corporate public and government affairs positions, including established relationships with the highest levels of elected and appointed officials at the federal level.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong problem solving and decision making abilities required.
Major Accountabilities
1) Support VP, Federal Affairs in effective lobbying at the federal level on issues of concern to Pinnacle West to influence public policy, legislation, and regulation that advances company and customer interests.
2) Assist in ensuring that Pinnacle West maintains strong and effective working relationships with Washington, DC based government officials within the executive and legislative branches. Additionally, maintain strong partnership with trade associations and organizations such as Edison Electric Institute, Nuclear Energy Institute, the US Chamber of Commerce, and National Association of Manufacturers. Support outreach to industry lobbying coalitions on priority issues.
3) Help facilitate flow of information to Pinnacle West and APS senior officers relying on Federal Affairs office for pertinent information related to strategic initiatives, agency actions, and legislative proposals.
4) Schedule and manage the inflow of requests for meetings and conferences, helping coordinate travel, to ensure company representation in high-impact forums. As needed, organize events and host government officials and other industry parties to exchange ideas and information on business activities and potential legislation that may affect the organization.
5) Make contribution recommendations to Pinnacle West Political Action Committee (PAC) Board and support PAC projects, communications, and outreach efforts in political, civic, and social arenas as assigned by the CEO.
6) Support recurring company filings such as the Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA) report and Federal Election Commission (FEC) PAC reports.
7) File expense accounts, manage contracts and annual budget; manage incoming mail and bill payments for the office. Identify and act on opportunities to streamline administrative processes associated with managing the office.

Flex Role:
This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work. Employees will have two options to choose from:
APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.
Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.
*Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
