Director, Business Dev. (Mid Atlantic Reg.)-Safari Energy (A PPL Co.)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Source and close solar project opportunities and lead our Build and Sell, Build and Own and Develop and Sell initiatives.

  • Lead the RFP process; qualify and prepare proposals for clients in a timely manner with assistance from a highly experienced team behind you.

  • Possess subject matter expertise on the market drivers for solar development in assigned territories including energy, utility, legislative and incentive conditions for solar development to inform market strategies.

  • Search for and cultivate network of project developers to originate new opportunities within the assigned territory.

  • Cultivate and develop channel partner relationships which can drive portfolios of projects and support development activities with new projects.

  • Secure the customer and facility information required to assist Engineering, Procurement and Construction Departments with the design and pricing projects

  • Lead contract negotiation with clients in partnership with internal legal team.

  • Identify and sell to clusters of commercial clients, e.g. real estate management companies, large corporate holdings, national and regional companies with multiple sites, hospital chains, universities, school districts, municipalities, etc.

  • Conduct compelling sales presentations to both channel partners and end users.

  • Screen opportunities for financial and development viability.

  • Negotiate project acquisition and development services agreements.

  • Coordinate between development partners and broader organization to manage the completion of securing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) site leases, and easements, and lead the interdepartment deal team in bringing projects to NTP.

  • Investigate new market segments and assess viability.

  • Work with the Business Development Associate on public and private RFP’s that are within the assigned territory.

  • Track and assess state incentive markets in assigned markets, including Renewable Energy Credits, grants and other federal and state programs beneficial to our clients.

  • Serve as incentive program expert for assigned territory. Research and report on state and local regulatory issues relevant to solar projects in assigned markets. Track and circulate information on applicable state incentive programs.

  • Secure front-line market intelligence and communicate to broader organization.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the SVP, Business Development, this position will lead the origination and business development efforts to seek out, source, and screen solar project opportunities in assigned territory. The Director, Business Development is responsible for identifying new clients and generating leads for customers looking for energy diversification strategies, sustainable sourcing, and energy expense management. The successful candidate will develop a network of channel partners who can bring portfolios of projects, respond to selected RFP’s and coordinate support efforts within Safari to respond effectively and win projects. While working remotely, the Director, Business Development will work proactively with business partners in Project Finance, Project Development, Engineering and EPC to develop opportunities into fully constructed projects. The ability to work independently and as a team member are critical, as well as the desire and innovative mind set to operate as an important contributor within a fast-pace, early stage company environment.

Basic Qualifications:

Must be passionate about the renewable energy business, hardworking and thrive in the fast pace of a rapidly growing, early stage company. In addition, the Director, Business Development must possess:

  • Minimum BS or BA degree required, MBA or master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years sales experience with at least 3 years in solar energy or finance.

  • Enterprise and C&I sales experience highly desirable.

  • Ability to deliver effective presentations.

  • Proficiency with Word and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to analyze and summarize complex information.

  • Strong analytical and Excel skills.

  • Experience with CRM.

  • Proven negotiations skills.

  • Demonstrated success as a self-starter, capable of independent execution and working collaboratively with others

  • Superlative communication skills
