Job Purpose
National Grid is building a new team, ngDigital, to provide best-in-class digital delivery. The Digital team will comprise of two hubs, one in the US (Boston) and one in the UK (Birmingham) and will build digital products that create strategic value in a fast and agile manner. In addition to creating digital products, the ngDigital hubs are talent incubators that will disseminate digital capabilities and culture within National Grid.
We are looking for a Digital Architect to join our rapidly growing team. You will work alongside the National Grd Enterprise Architecture and Domain Architecture group, existing platform solution architects as well as the Digital Development team ensuring that proposed and developed products are compliant with national grid strategy. Together with your team, you will develop IT concepts and architecture solutions as well as support technical implementations actively and on site, applying your sound technical know-how, your understanding of business contexts, and your analytical and conceptual skills. You are going to be working on brand-new products with a strong team behind you. You are passionate about digital products and have a strong ability to solve technical and architectural IT-problems.
Key Accountabilities
Work with Enterprise architecture to ensure that digital projects align with existing EA/Business strategy
Work with security team to define security architecture and appropriate controls
Creation of High-level architectural designs and artefacts
Works with development teams to remove/reduce architectural ambiguities
During project works with development team to provide high level designs for components
Collaborate with business and technical staff on the development of digital products
Work with service management to ensure that the delivered service can be managed/maintained effectively
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Able to solve problems with agility
Able to distill a lot of information into a consumable format for variety of audiences
Able to communicate effectively to senior stakeholders
Collaborate with business unit to navigate organization to help team create value
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field
TOGAF certification preferred
Technical expertise (overarching understanding of architecture, object-oriented programming languages, database design and systems, component technologies, XML standards, and current technology trends) of digital solutions on mobile devices as well as legacy environments
Experience of enterprise database technologies (SQL/No-SQL/Oracle) and ideally some exposure to big-data environments
Experience of Enterprise technologies would be advantageous (asset management/finance/customer/mapping etc).
Experience of creating architectural artefacts and capability models
