Job Purpose

National Grid is building a new team, ngDigital, to provide best-in-class digital delivery from two regional hubs that execute in a fast, agile manner against strategic priorities. In addition to creating digital products, the ngDigital hubs are talent incubators that disseminate digital capabilities and culture within National Grid.

The UI Designer will play a vital role in designing a wide range of our products and interfaces. They will be involved in the product development process from ideation to launch, working closely with UX, Product Owners, developers to deliver the best digital experience for the customer.

Key Accountabilities
  • Translate conceptual and low-fidelity designs into intuitive and brand-compliant user interfaces and designs.

  • Work collaboratively with other designers, product design and development teams, business analysts, engineers, and project managers.

  • Develop and ensure visual consistency across our portfolio of products and platforms.

  • Execute the final visual design stage and produce a full specification for hand-off to engineering.

  • Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders.

  • Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and develop standard UI components and style guides.

  • Be part of our agile team delivery team and design disruptive and intuitive user interfaces.

  • Work with the design team to ensure AA accessibility standards are adhered to and be able to assess the usability of web and mobile interactions.

  • Reiterate designs based on user feedback.

  • A degree in Graphic Design or related field strongly preferred

  • 2+ years of UI experience working in a corprate environment.

  • Proven and demonstratable UI experience design skills with a strong portfolio.

  • Solid experience creating high-fidelity designs specification as part of hand-off to engineering teams.

  • Proficiency in Figma using PC as well as other industry-standard design software such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Axure RP, etc. preferred.

  • Experience in the development and maintenance of design systems and pattern libraries.

  • Ability to present your designs and sell your solutions to various stakeholders.

  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.

  • Up-to-date with the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies.
