National Grid Tech Enablement , Back Office Solution Support Manager - Finance in Waltham, Massachusetts

_About the Position: _

Reporting to the Director of Technology Enablement, this position is responsible for the management of the Back Office Solution Support team with SAP; the manager will oversee the change and maintenance of the SAP Back Office solution including SAP, OpenText, Field Glass, uPerform, ARIBA and CONCUR. This includes oversight on change management, incident management and escalation, and the release management processes.

The Back Office Solution Manager will drive process efficiencies and improvements that will enhance the SAP Back Office solution for business users while reducing overhead, will be responsible for creating and maintaining valued partnerships with the business by supporting their core SAP integration business process and system needs.

_Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):_

  • Provide leadership of the Back Office solution with SAP and other integrating systems, understanding and prioritizing stakeholder demands in the Hire to Retire, Order to Cash, Procure to Pay business areas, while maintaining integrity of the solution

  • Manage Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Fleet, IMWM, HR, Payroll & Time stakeholder relationships by meeting regularly with business and IS teams to ensure that the solution is providing business value and requirements are incorporated into the solutions

  • Drive process improvements and innovation that contribute value to the business

  • Provide consultation and application rationalization when implementing new applications that interact with the ERP systems

  • Advocate for best practices and the standard use of the SAP and associated solutions; assisting the business with the adoption of the solutions

  • Promote the services and capabilities of back office integration solution excellence to the business

  • Establish, maintain and monitor key performance indicators for Back Office Solution services

  • Identify functional enhancements in upcoming software releases that should be leveraged

  • Drive for data accuracy, process efficiency, consistency and timeliness of interface processing

  • Drive technical performance improvements by working with IS and technical partners to resolve performance issues

  • Identifying and monitoring reconciliation variances and driving the resolution process

  • Ensure changes to SAP Back Office Solution are justified, prioritized and approved

  • Monitor that the change process flows smoothly and routinely reporting on progress

  • Consult on proposed solutions and drive adherence to solution integrity principles

  • Provide counsel to employees, oversee third party consultants and contractors, and advise senior leaders as necessary

  • Contribute to the release management process by working with the business and Technology Enablement leadership to identify key variables that will influence the release plan (e.g. major business initiatives, upcoming software release (major, minor and patches), major functional development efforts, environment management issues (e.g. environment refreshes planned outages, etc.).

  • Maintain adherence to all published application roadmaps, strategies, release plans and schedules

  • Understand the change impact, communications, and training necessary for the business for all releases and system changes

  • Support the SAP and associated applications User Communities by providing relevant documentation to support business processing capabilities, including contributing to the development of additional training materials and job aids to improve the usability of the SAP and integrating solutions

  • Work closely with application maintenance and application development teams to leverage SAP functionality, process and system customizations as required and to contribute to the maintenance of the SAP back office solution

  • Provide regular updates on the usability and health of the solution to drive maximum value for the business

  • Provide advisory services on trends in emerging technologies and strategies that impact or benefit the National Grid application landscape, including working closely with key application vendors (e.g., SAP)

  • Works closely with Application Management and Development Managers to ensure adherence to architectural standards

  • Manage the team of core and functional analysts in the SAP and non-SAP applications across business processes

  • Help set work priorities across the team

  • Participate or delegate participation in the Change Control Board

  • Successfully own and execute the processes that contribute to the Business Process Support team and Business Services organization achieving the overall objectives

  • Provide business & solution consulting

  • Ensure end to end solution integrity

  • Take ownership for partnering between the business and IS on back office solutions

  • Enable the team to remain the Center of Excellence for back office solutions

  • Promote adherence to the Incident Management (IM) and Change Request (CR) processes; maintain IM & CR process documentation and job aids; promote testing standards and excellence; and ensure that all applicable compliance requirements (e.g., SOX) are followed. Monitor the progress of IS delivery to ensure expected deliverables and results with specific focus on benefits realization

  • Coordinate with IS Program development all program and Business as Usual activities

_Qualifications Required:_

  • 6-8 years’ experience supporting the SAP and associated back office solutions, SAP and Powerplan interfaces, SAP back office integration, business processes and system interfaces

  • 7-8 years’ experience in managing and coaching a team

  • Excellent presentation and client-facing skills across a wide variety of audiences

  • Experience managing significant projects or programs of work

  • Experience with governance principles, process and procedures

  • Strong understanding of the ITIL framework

  • Experience in the Utilities & Energy industry with specific and relevant experience in the SAP solution

  • Ability to negotiate for win-win outcomes

  • 6-8 years’ experience supporting the SAP and associated back office solutions, SAP and Powerplan interfaces, SAP back office integration, business processes and system interfaces

  • Extensive knowledge of National Grid’s Back Office support systems and processes associated with the work order life cycle, account code block and accounting inventory management, warehouse management, procurement, accounts payable, Non-utility billing, HR and Payroll related processes

  • Understanding of utility accounting and National Grid capitalization policies and practices

  • Strong understanding of business processes and data relationships

  • Solid background in SAP and associated systems architecture and design, business analysis and the overall development life cycle process, especially in the support areas of business user requirements definition, business process design, business user acceptance testing and business change management and support

  • Understands systems and process design principles

  • Ability to translate complex business requirements into robust and optimized solutions

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar discipline required with a minimum of 5 years progressive growth or experience in a similar field

  • Masters’ Degree, advanced degree or professional certifications a plus, but not required
