Job Purpose

National Grid IT team is currently seeking an innovative, adaptable, and results-oriented leader who will be leading an organization of Software & Systems engineers, Application & Solution Architects, Business Analysts working on various initiatives who plan, design, develop/configure, test and deploy technology solutions that meet & exceed expectations of National Grid internal & external customers. This leader will also play the role of process owner, partnering closely with other Technical Managers, Product Owners, and Scrum Team Leads to achieve success against a defined set of desired business outcomes. This leader will also be challenged with the transition of projects/programs from waterfall methodology to Agile/Scaled Agile/Digital/Product development practices where applicable. This leader will report to the Director of Solutions Engineering within the National Grid IT organization.

Key Accountabilities

  • Determine staffing strategy, consistent with the needs of the SE team.

  • Hire and lead technical resources for various initiatives.

  • Provide technical direction for the requirement gathering, design, development, and systems integration from definition phase through implementation & support.

  • Ensure Delivery strategy / Technical plans and detailed WBS are captured and executed to the plan.

  • Identify cost and timeline estimation and manages technical resources within budget and project schedules.

  • Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments; Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team.

  • Ensure system, technical & product architecture is compliant with and adheres to all National Grid operational, architectural, and design standards and principles.

  • Review proposals for technology systems & solutions. Recognize system deficiencies and implements effective solutions.

  • Develop and maintain a network of industry contacts. Performs research on industry trends.

  • Apply knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve solution/service delivery for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Establish the standards for code, source control, versioning, and code reviews.

  • Prepare and present Project/Program level communications for executives and stakeholders

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with credibility and gravitas to influence and lead thought at the senior level.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or similar field; or equivalent work experience.

  • 5+ years of technical leadership and 3+ years of managing technical teams working on simultaneous projects.

  • 10+ years of Software Development Lifecycle Management, Application Lifecycle Management, Solution Architecture, Data Architecture, DevOps processes/tools and techniques

  • Experience of managing COTS (Commercial off the Shelf) products, budgets and justifying resource needs to senior leaders and finance

  • Experience in developing multi-year product and technical strategies

  • Experience influencing leadership decisions through presentation of technical information, both verbally and in writing

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences

  • Knowledge and experience with Agile (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe etc.) and Waterfall software development methodologies
