National Grid Senior Analyst, Process and Performance Improvement in Waltham, Massachusetts

* National Grid is hiring a Senior Specialist for our Finance Process Excellence department in Waltham, Massachusetts.*

Job Purpose

This role is accountable for the robust analysis of process improvement initiatives within Finance to meet strategic objectives and targets. The successful candidate will take responsibility for analyzing, modelling, and reporting on initiatives and key business issues to their targeted performance and operational goals. In this role the candidate will apply a deep process lean tools and project and change management principles to drive continuous improvement activities. A step change to transform Finance to be a process driven organization is our future state. The role will interact directly with leaders, providing them with timely and relevant business data that supports process improvement decision making.To deliver process improvements within our end to end processes and support the overall Performance Excellence Strategy, by engaging team members and managers in Performance Excellence, building their capability so that National Grid embeds and sustains a Continuous Improvement Culture.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support identification of key performance indicators, setting performance targets, tracking performance, and reporting.

  • Monitor, analyze, assess and report and communicate the KPIs and KPI trends for the value stream

  • Lead process improvement projects across business functions. Acting as an internal consultant to make professional recommendations for business improvements, whilst facilitating and coaching others on projects and LEAN techniques.

  • Work collaboratively across functions to ensure alignment on initiatives, processes and deliverables.

  • Conduct data collection and analysis, identify specific process improvement opportunities, inform scoping documents and support project deliverables.

  • Provide accurate, transparent, and timely analysis to support project leadership in project decision making process.

  • Clearly articulate performance implications of business decisions / choices, and provide retrospective analysis, as well as, drive forward looking actions at the project and portfolio level.

  • Leverage understanding of the business context to synthesize financial and operational data into meaningful business insights that highlight performance, risk, and opportunities at project level.

  • Proactively engage and challenge project leadership to achieve financial and business goals; work closely with them to meet goals and influence sound decision making.

  • Report and communicate the results from process improvement efforts to the leadership team.

  • Develop/own/lead process improvement projects

  • Conduct data collection and analysis to support process improvement projects to reduce cost and complexity across the enterprise.

  • Draft and review project deliverables and analysis such as value-stream mapping and statistical analysis.

  • Interact with senior leadership and subject matter experts to develop solutions that improve process performance by increasing productivity, efficiency and managing process demand while enhancing the customer experience.

  • This position will contribute to projects across the organization focused on reducing cost and complexity.

  • Coach and facilitate teams to deliver projects across functions.

  • Organize and facilitate workshops to define issues and develop solutions.

  • Identify and understand all customer needs and requirements and focus improvement actions on the processes that are falling short of satisfying these needs and requirements.

  • Improve processes and team performance using Performance Excellence tools and ensuring subsequent improvements support the delivery of the Continuous Improvement Roadmap.


  • Bachelor's degree preferred and 5+ years related work experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop metrics.

  • Strong MS Excel modelling skills using large amounts of data.

  • Proficient in relevant software e.g. Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other database type products.

  • Basic understanding of project management techniques and methods.

  • Knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies and practices preferred. Knowledge of relevant industry practice preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities through effective planning and execution skills.

  • Financial background and acumen with an ability to translate process metrics into financial results preferred.

  • Ability to form queries and extract data from multiple systems (Cascade, SAP, Power Plant, etc.).

  • Experience in establishing performance frameworks and metrics reporting and leveraging performance software (e.g., Tableau).

  • Strong analytical skills; must be able to provide timely and accurate interpretation of analyses.

  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and determine priorities in a team environment.

  • Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
