Job Purpose

The energy transition presents challenges and opportunities for us as a business and for the wider sector, requiring careful balancing of objectives across decarbonization, affordability, and energy system reliability. Our team helps evaluate these issues and design new policy and regulatory frameworks needed to support an effective energy transition on behalf of National Grid’s US operations in New York and Massachusetts and the nearly six million customers we serve.

To conduct and help manage policy and regulatory analyses for National Grid’s electric and gas businesses in Massachusetts and New York, engaging with internal cross-functional teams and business leaders on complex and challenging issues. This role is responsible for conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, helping shape the development of regulatory strategy and policy positions, and supporting regulatory filings.

Key Accountabilities

• Conduct high-quality analysis, recommendations, and proposal development in complex areas of state utility, energy, and climate policy.

• Distill complex information into clear and concise information for internal teams and leaders (e.g., presentations, memos, reports) and external stakeholders (e.g., regulatory testimony and other filings.)

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to assess industry and policy developments, identify core issues and their strategic implications, and help foster alignment on recommend courses of action.

• Provide technical and strategic input to advance energy policies, rate case strategies, and other initiatives within National Grid.

• Coordinate internal working groups supporting regulatory filings in a range of areas

• Ensure results are delivered in line with expectations and business objectives.

• Other related duties as assigned to support the Policy & Regulatory Strategy team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree in a relevant field preferred.

• Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant work experience or equivalent.

• Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex problems through analysis and recommend solutions using data, logic and insight.

• Strong proficiency with MS Excel for various types of quantitative analysis.

• Exemplary time management and proactive assessment of workload.

• Familiarity with energy and environmental policy and the role of utilities in providing essential energy services to society; knowledge of utility regulation preferred.

• Capable of working closely with multiple internal stakeholder groups.

• Strong communication and presentation development skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex issues and data.

• This role is hybrid office/remote, working within the National Grid service territory.

Salary

$93,000 - $109,000 a year
