National Grid Senior Analyst, Network Intelligence in Waltham, Massachusetts

_About the Position:_

National Grid’s Transmission business is focused on creating the most intelligent transmission network in the US; facilitating the evolving needs of customers and a decarbonized energy future. To create that future, National Grid is focused on deploying new technologies on its transmission network and within its engineering and operational capability.

National Grid operates the largest transmission network in the Northeast US with 9,000 miles of transmission across New England and New York, including a HVDC transmission delivering over 2,000 MW of clean hydro power from Canada.

The role will be responsible for moving forward a view of “network intelligence”. This capability has been identified as a gap at National Grid; whereby, we are able to provide a long-term view of how the transmission network will change under various scenarios. The network intelligence will also include a short term view of various policy and tariff changes would impact our electric networks in terms of necessary investments and impacts customers, and evaluate technology deployment impact on the transmission network.

_Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):_

  • Responsible for engaging with transmission business (engineering, asset management, and operations) to evaluate, implement, and develop new technology to deploy on our transmission networks (including line and station monitoring, power flow control and energy storage)

  • Responsible for engaging with transmission business to better understand opportunities to utilize technology to improve analytical tools and capabilities and operations (e.g., asset management and inspection and maintenance tools, including new predictive operation and maintenance capabilities )

  • Engages with external partners (universities, vendors, national labs) to better collaborate on technology deployments and ensure National Grid is leveraging best in class learnings and capabilities development when deploying new technologies, including alignment with UK National Grid ETO Innovation team

  • Develop a long-term network modeling and shorter-term system scenario study that can be utilize to evaluate technologies on National Grid networks and ensure policy decisions bring value to our networks and customers

  • Execution and refinement of transmission business roadmap for creating the/Most Intelligent Transmission Network/and engagement with external stakeholder to move forward National Grid new role in this energy future.

_Knowledge & Experience Required:_

  • Bachelor degree in engineering, data science, or other analytical science (technology, strategy, economics, etc)

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience

  • Analytical skills

  • Experience working independently on multiple simultaneous initiative

  • Entrepreneur mentality
