National Grid IT Business Portfolio Director - Gas in Waltham, Massachusetts

_About the Position:_

Direct the management of a number of global initiatives / Business case from initiation to completion that delivers business change and subsequent benefits. Lead strategic project planning and annual investment planning. Liaison senior/executive management business partners to plan and ensure creation of balanced portfolio aligning with IT budget objectives. Drive initiatives to roll out process improvement initiatives and functionality to support new operating model defined by the company. Leads and manages portfolio of the business unit and business stakeholder management. Directs and coordinates budget activities of multiple projects and evaluates the impacts of changes from original portfolio plans across multiple projects to provide direction.

Leads strategies to remove barriers to ensure that portfolio initiatives are delivered on time and within budget with end to end accountability. Partners with internal and external stakeholders for the delivery of technology solutions for the assigned business unit(s) / functions(s). Provides leadership to executive management to determine future technology / systems direction for both internally developed and vendor maintained systems. Performs research, feasibility studies to promote innovation and credible business solutions with optimal cost options. Develops business strategies, road maps, and plans that impact Business operations and sustainability. Translates planning into delivery execution for various programs/projects ranging from rationalizing legacy systems to technology modernization with innovative solutions to future proof the business.

_Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):_

  • Manage Business relationship and provide thought leadership to provide solutions for complex business challenges.

  • Lead Portfolio calibration and manage demand for in year and future investments including benefit realization.

  • Successfully shape and deliver a range of complex and challenging programs to deliver business value

  • Introduce and embed a culture of commercial rigor to the team

  • Ensure the rationale for all projects is underpinned by a strong business case which is transparent to the program sponsor within the business and maximizes National Grids investment in technology.

  • Ensure that the value of each program is evident using business models

  • Directing programs within a business function utilizing all available resources and relationships

  • Managing dependencies, risks, plans, costs and resourcing needs across multiple programs

  • Ensures that the Program offers a range of options and implements a change which achieves the objectives that have been set and that the business benefits are realized

  • Initiates formal reviews of the Program and its achievements

  • Engage and influence stakeholders

  • Introduce best practice program and project management principles and ensure these are adhered to. Operate as a role model for Valued Business Partner, championing similar behaviors across IS

_Job Dimensions:_

Manage a number (3 - 5) of Program/Portfolio initiatives. These initiatives will have 5-8 direct and/or indirect reports. The organization is designed to deliver CAPEX and OPEX and other customer efficiencies based on business and IT targets.

*Knowledge & Experience Required:*

  • Extensive experience at successfully delivering challenging and complextechnology programs/ business change involving working with globally based employees and development partners

  • Has the ability to influence and manage senior stakeholders at Director/EVP level.

  • Has proven leadership, relationship, communication and presentation skills

  • A good knowledge of the business and IS strategy and drivers.

  • Understands National Grids policies, management structures and reporting procedures for all aspects of the Program’s environment.Demonstrate the Valued Business Partner capabilities and behaviors in all interactions with IS Colleagues, vendors and business stakeholders.

  • Each role will be aligned to either Gas Distribution UK, Transmission UK, US Businesses, FSS&C or Infrastructure.

_Qualifications Required:_

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant disciplineor an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Masters in Business Administration is preferred.

  • Relevant industry certification (e.g. Business Relationship Management, Managing Successful Programs, SAFE) desirable
