National Grid Global Category Manager, Professional Services in Waltham, Massachusetts

_About the Position:_

To provide strategic thought leadership and overall ownership in the development and implementation of the assigned global category strategies. Working closely with the business, you will create and define a clear and compelling strategy for the allocated global category ensuring that maximum value is realized through National Grid’s global supply chain. Responsible for continuously driving value added and innovative category strategies that meet the business needs, by working collaboratively with key Global Procurement personnel based in the two regional teams (UK and US) and the wider business entities

_Position Responsibilities(including but not limited to)_:

  • Lead on the development of the category strategy and implementation plan for a specific global category to deliver:

--A global category strategy that aligns and supports the overall business strategy that is market leading and best in class that will help drive the business forward.

--Maximum value by driving the global category with regards to supplier spend, volume leverage, quality, forecasting efficiency, and innovation.

--Strategies to unlock the full value potential within the procured category applicable learnings are shared across other global and regional categories.

  • Accountable for the delivery of a portfolio of global strategic sourcing events within the allocated global category area, working with the Global Procurement regional teams to execute. Undertake external and internal market analysis to profile the characteristics of the allocated global category – including external analysis of supply markets and supplier trends, to inform the global category management planning process, ensuring opportunities to drive value are leveraged and that risks are identified and mitigated.

  • Build a network of external contacts and attend seminars, conferences and trade fairs to build global category knowledge.

  • Understand the future requirements of the business and ensure this is factored into the category forward planning to deliver maximum supplier spend efficiencies through volume leverage, forecast buying, supplier innovation, exploitation of non-traditional markets..

  • Carry out fact-based analysis of the supply market, the identification and delivery of savings targets, the use of appropriate and agreed sourcing tools and processes, risk identification and mitigation strategies.

  • Report on allocated global category performance (and sub-categories), reporting this view into the Head of Global Procurement / Senior Category Manager to drive awareness of spend, opportunities.

  • Matrix management of regional teams both with global procurement and across the business to develop and execute your recommended strategies.

_Knowledge and Experience Required_:

  • Experience of working within a Global Procurement function, leading, identifying and executing multiple opportunities across a range of global categories to deliver value.

  • Experience of developing and delivering global category strategies within a complex, global enterprise environment across cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to work with the regional procurement teams in the US & UK to deliver the agreed category strategy via appropriate project management & reporting techniques.

  • Has the ability to coach and train Category Management & Strategic Sourcing to an expert level within their teams across multiple categories.

  • Track record of driving value beyond straightforward procurement savings in areas of value engineering, usage of lean techniques to identify and eliminate waste and identify income opportunities in the extended value chain.

  • Good understanding of broader business objectives and the implications of strategic planning and actions within the category on the regional/global businesses.

  • Expert influencing & negotiation skills to drive optimum value through the award of commercially sound contracts.

  • Experience of presenting to and influencing leadership teams, being seen as a credible key part of the decision making process for strategic sourcing decisions

  • Relationship management experience, driving commercial value and performance through major contracts.

  • Skilled at developing and working with multi-disciplinary teams to achieve a common objective.

  • Politically savvy knowing when to both ‘ask and tell’ the business & stakeholders.

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent required.
