National Grid is hiring a Director for our Enterprise Program Management Office in Waltham, MA.

Job Purpose

National Grid is transforming itself into a customer-centric, clean energy company. To do this, we need to modernize every aspect of our business including network strategies, asset management, our end to end processes, systems and data, and leadership and talent. We are becoming a company that rejects the status quo and restlessly finds a better way in everything we do. To lead and guide this transformation, we are establishing an Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO).

The Director of Enterprise Portfolio Management Office a strategic role accountable for the execution of the our transformation strategy in collaboration with our business units, major programs, and functions. The role will assist the Chief Transformation Officer and NGUSA’s Executive Committee in assessing, prioritizing, and sequencing its $3b transformation portfolio.The EPMO Director will design a performance tracking system, track the status of the transformation, and recommend course corrections.

Key Accountabilities

A versatile leader, the Director of Enterprise Program Management is accountable for:

  • Developing and prioritizing the transformation portfolio across the US business

  • Building a strong team of PMO specialists (3 to 5) to track the execution of hundreds of transformation programs

  • Collaborating with peers across business units and functions to assess the priority and cadence of the programs, and identify roadblocks and adjust strategies and interventions to maximize effectiveness

  • Measuring and tracking progress of multi-billion dollar US Transformation programs

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Experience of program, portfolio and project management.

  • Experience of building lasting relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Proven stakeholder engagement and management experience.


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with more than 12 years of experience, including 5 or more leading a PMO and/or implementing billions of dollars of large scale programs in a customer focused organization

  • Strategic leader with in-depth understanding of PMO principles and methodologies

  • Energetic team builder with more than 5 years of experience developing and managing teams of PMO professionals

  • Excellent facilitator able to translate strategy into actionable tactics that will deliver sustainable transformation

  • Self-aware leader who can effectively manage stakeholders and build relationships across all levels and functions

  • Disciplined manager able to prioritize, deliver and delegate at pace

  • Business-minded director able to manage complex multi-year programs ensuring maximum value

  • Effective communicator able to communicate at all levels within the organization

  • MBA is a plus

  • Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
