SUMMARY

Establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident free, and healthy work environment. Manage the implementation of the company's safety procedures and incident prevention measures.

Formulates general safety policies and procedures to be followed by company or plant personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries. Reinforce the company's safety programs and assist in the review of process, procedure and procedure revisions.

Assist in off-site safety assessments, critical field safety observations and in compliance investigations.

EDUCATION

Bachelors degree in Engineering or a technical discipline. Without a degree, 5 years experience working in an industrial environment. (Required)

EXPERIENCE

5 Years + in safety discipline or as a Safety Specialist related role in an industrial environment. 2 years supervisory experience preferred (Required)

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

Certified Safety Professional (Preferred)

Certified Industrial Hygienist (Preferred)

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

SAFETY SPECIALIST - SUPERVISOR:

Supervises the implementation of the company's safety procedures and incident prevention measures.

Formulates general safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. Interprets regulations to insure compliance of STP programs and processes.

Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies. Perform studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies. Maintains safety files and records.

Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, shops, and safety programs. Inspects or tours facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective and/or preventative measures where indicated.

Leads, or coordinates the investigation of accidents and injuries. Participates in the preparation of information for hearings or other proceedings involving outside agencies or entities. Takes preventative measures for mitigation of future recurrence.

Develops, supervises, and coordinates training programs or media which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.

Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and material, promotional work, industry conferences and exhibitions.

Keeps managers and employees alerted to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and other hazardous substances.

Provides input to the Budget planning process. Participates in the Business Planning process.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT :

Performs people management.

Prepares and delivers oral and written communications relating to work group and station activities (e.g., reports, presentations, department meetings).

Monitors work group reports and recommendations to assure evaluations, assessments and support are effectively developed and communicated.

Develops and maintains appropriate technical expertise within the work group to ensure adequate talent to perform meaningful assessments and program oversight.

Represents department/company on internal work teams and committees and with external entities.

Maintains composure in high stress or adverse situations.

Understands and implements company policies.

FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

Maintains fiscal records and procedures of the department to ensure the effective and efficient operations.

Understands and manages to financial and budget targets. Incorporates financial analysis into strategic decisions.

Proactively monitors and interprets ongoing financial performance and responds strategically.

Incorporates financial analysis into strategic decisions and takes accountability for financial decisions within area.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Accept ERO position as needed.

Accept outage position as needed.

Provide leadership and direction to responsible organization.

Perform personnel activities for direct reports (promotions, salary changes, counseling, performance appraisals, development plans).

Monitor organizational activities, evaluate impact of internal and external factors (e.g., technology, regulations, business environment) and implements response plans.

Budget for ongoing and future expenses and monitor budget performance.

Provide employees with tools and training necessary for them to perform their assignments. Resolves problems and interpersonal conflicts in the section.

Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.

Firm understanding of STP Goals and long-term plans.

Ability to use computer office skills that supports development of training documentation and presentation material.

Ability to operate and/or maintain plant or mock-up equipment, systems, tools, cranes or forklifts as appropriate for instructional purposes of the related

training discipline. This may include achieving and maintaining appropriate plant qualifications,

Knowledge of safety regulations, policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.

Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.

Works in a Plant environment. Able to access all already of the Plant. Kneeling, stooping, climbing, and ability to work around energized or operating equipment.

Travel may be required.

May be required to carry pager/phone.
