SUMMARY

Establishes and drives the maintenance and oversight of a safe, accident free, and healthy work environment. Manages the ownership of the company's safety procedures and incident prevention measures. Formulates general safety policies and procedures to be followed by company or plant personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. Leads the investigation of workplace accidents and injuries. Reinforces the company's safety programs and assists in the review of process and procedure revisions. Assists in off-site safety assessments, critical field safety observations, and compliance investigations. Represents Safety in cross- functional meetings to drive safety performance.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor degree in Science, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or a similar degree in a related field. (Preferred).

• Without a degree, 5 years’ experience working in an industrial safety environment may be considered.

EXPERIENCE

• 8 Years in safety discipline or as a Safety Specialist related role in an industrial environment. (Required)

• 2 years supervisory experience (Preferred).

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

• Certified Safety Professional (Preferred)

• Certified Industrial Hygienist (Preferred)

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

SAFETY SPECIALIST - SUPERVISOR:

Supervises the implementation of the company's safety procedures and incident prevention measures.

• Formulates general safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. Interprets regulations to ensure compliance of STP programs and processes.

• Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.

• Maintains safety files and records.

• Performs studies and analysis of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

• Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, shops, and safety programs.

• Inspects or tours facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and recommends corrective and/or preventative measures where indicated.

• Leads or coordinates the investigation of workplace accidents and injuries. Participates in the preparation of information for hearings or other proceedings involving outside agencies or entities. Takes preventative measures for mitigation of future recurrence.

• Develops, supervises, and coordinates training programs or media which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.

• Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and material, promotional work, industry conferences and exhibitions.

• Keeps managers and employees alerted to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and other hazardous substances.

• Actively participates in shop meetings, onboarding of contractors, and cross-functional meetings to deliver the Safety message and drive performance.

• Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:

Performs people management.

• Supervises the Safety staff and ensures developmental plans are in place and followed.

• Perform personnel activities for direct reports (promotions, salary changes, counseling, performance appraisals).

• Prepares and delivers oral and written communications relating to work group and station activities (e.g., reports, presentations, department meetings).

• Monitors work group reports and recommendations to assure evaluations, assessments and support are effectively developed and communicated.

• Develops and maintains appropriate technical expertise within the work group to ensure adequate talent to perform meaningful assessments and program oversight.

• Represents department/company on internal work teams and committees and with external entities.

• Maintains composure in high stress or adverse situations.

• Understands and implements company policies.

• Provides employees with tools and training necessary for them to perform their assignments.

FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

Maintains fiscal records and procedures of the department to ensure the effective and efficient operations.

• Understands and manages to financial and budget targets. Incorporates financial analysis into strategic decisions.

• Proactively monitors and interprets ongoing financial performance and responds strategically.

• Incorporates financial analysis into strategic decisions and takes accountability for financial decisions within area.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Accept ERO position as needed.

• Accept outage position as needed.

• Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.

• On call Duty Safety for site as required.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Environmental and physical requirements are subject to crouching, stooping, bending, twisting and/or lifting up to 30 lbs; ascending/descending stairs; sitting for extended periods of time; and spending considerable time in front of computer monitors.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.

• Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.

• Travel may be required.

• May be required to carry phone.

WORK LOCATION

• Due to the nature of the work, this position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site.
