SUMMARY

Assists journeyman electricians in the performance of all maintenance activities, including the testing and repair of transformers, electrical buses/cables, switchgear, motors, generators, solid state equipment, circuit breakers, protective relays, metering, cranes, chillers, motor operated valves and plant lighting. Work to plant procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements. Attend and successfully complete all phases of the Electrical apprenticeship as directed by management and supervision. Complete on-the-job training from a qualified electrical instructor or qualified electrical maintenance personnel.

EDUCATION

• High School/GED or equivalent (Required)

• Associates degree in a science, mathematics, or technology program (preferably) electrical technology) or equivalent. Navy nuclear power plant experience may be considered in lieu of the Associate Degree or equivalent requirement. (Required)

• In lieu of the above requirements, relevant experience will be considered.

EXPERIENCE

• 0 - 2 Years experience as an electrical helper is desirable. Navy nuclear power plant experience may be considered in lieu of degree or equivalent requirement. Hiring at the Apprentice 2 or above requires demonstration of experience and skill. (Preferred)

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

•General Employee Training 1, 2, 3 and 4 (including respirator) (Required)

•Texas Driver’s license (Required)

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

ELECTRICAL APPRENTICE DUTIES:

Works as an apprentice and performs preventative/corrective maintenance and surveillance testing on plant equipment. Maintains plant equipment in an operable condition. Works to plant procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements.

• Attends and successfully completes classes in all phases of Electrical Maintenance as directed by management/supervision.

• Completes OJT/hands-on training from a qualified electrical instructor or qualified electrical maintenance personnel.

• Identifies hold points, additional problems, and proper replacement parts as needed during performance of work activities.

• Assists electricians in the testing and repair of motor operated valves, transformers, protective relays, generators, cranes, chillers, solid state equipment, breakers and electric motors.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Accept ERO position as needed.

• Accept outage position as needed.

• Performs all tasks safely in accordance with standards and expectations from the Conduct of Maintenance.

• Performs other assigned duties as directed by management, supervision, and electrical journeymen.

SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.

• Ability to use basic hand and power tools and to lift and carry equipment and tools up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings; be able to discern assorted colors.

• Ability to meet and maintain requirements for Electrical Maintenance certifications and task specific certifications.

• Have knowledge of basic mathematics to perform daily work activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.

• Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.

• Working environment consists of both outside and inside work, in both extreme hot and cold temperatures, in confined spaces, radiological environments, and occasionally at heights.

• Must be able to perform field work, including climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolds (stoop, crawl, and safely negotiate around equipment).
