These are specialized Wind Technician positions which may be filled at the Associate Renewables Technologist or Renewables Technologist I level dependent on a candidates level of experience.

Wind Technician (Associate Renewables Technologist level) - Large Corrective

This level of the Renewables Technologist support role provides for transition of Wind Technicians into the specialized teams. The Renewables Technologist Associate is responsible for inspection and repair of electrical generating equipment with supervision but must have the ability to work with some degree of independence. This position requires a high level of safety awareness.

Duties and Responsibilities

Repair and maintenance of Wind Fleet

Perform small and large corrective tasks on wind turbinesDevelop technical expertise for the identification and resolution of problems and complete repairs to electrical generating equipmentStrive to continuously improve job-related and technical knowledge, skills and performance.Diagnose and resolve faults on wind turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problemsPerform assigned tasks in accordance with all policy, procedures.Support business goals through safe and efficient execution of assigned tasks.Develops positive working relationships with team members.Work as scheduled by manager and/or assigned lead.

Climb up to 400 ft. several times dailyMaintain a high level of safety awareness at all timesWork in a outdoor environment for an extended period of time Operate equipment including but not limited to forklifts and commercial motor vehicles.

Compliance & Administrative Record MaintenanceEH&S DocumentationComplete regularly assigned administrative tasks (timesheets, work orders, expense reporting, equipment inspections).Report near misses and incidents in accordance with policy.

Add 'l Support for SitesWilling to travel and assist other Duke Energy Generation Services wind facilities when needed.

Wind Technician (Renewables Technologist I level) - Large Corrective

This leveI of the Renewables Technologist support role is responsible for the inspection and repair of electrical generating equipment and must have the ability to work with some degree of independence on many tasks. This position requires a high level of safety awareness. A Level 1 will have the capability of working with little to no supervision and will require little technical assistance. A Level 1 will also be capable of training and mentoring Associate Technologist. To reach this level the candidate must have demonstrated their ability and have received a recommendation from their manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Repair and maintenance of Wind Fleet

Perform small and large corrective tasks on wind turbinesLead teams of technicians as assigned on tasks within areas of developed expertise.Provide mentorship and training to Associate Technologists as directed.

Interact directly with customers as directed by manager.Develop technical expertise for the identification and resolution of problems and complete repairs to electrical generating equipment on an increasing number of technologies and tasks.Strive to continuously improve job-related and technical knowledge, skills and performance.Diagnose and resolve faults on wind turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems

Perform assigned tasks in accordance with all policy, procedures.Support business goals through safe and efficient execution of assigned tasks.Develops positive working relationships with team members and customers.Assist with scheduling, dispatching and travel coordination in support of project requirements.Oversee subcontractor activities on site as directed.Work as scheduled.

Climb up to 400 ft. several times dailyMaintain a high level of safety awareness at all timesWork in a outdoor environment for an extended period of time Operate equipment including but not limited to forklifts and commercial motor vehicles.

Compliance & Administrative Record Maintenance

EH&S DocumentationComplete regularly assigned administrative tasks (timesheets, work orders, expense reporting, tool inventories, equipment inspections).Assist in development and continuous improvement of procedures, LOTO and project reporting.Conduct pre-job briefs, post-assembly inspections, and pre-lift meetings as assigned.Report near misses and incidents in accordance with policy.

Basic/Required Qualifications - Associate Renewables Technologist

High school diploma or technical school certification

Plus a minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Wind Technician AND WITH exposure to the respective specialty service OR

Minimum of 1 year of directly related work experience within the specialty field or 2 years of work experience as a Wind Technician with exposure to the respective specialty service in lieu of a degree.

Valid Drivers License

Basic/Required Qualifications - Renewables Technologist I

High school diploma or technical school certification

Minimum of 2 years of directly related work experience within the specialty field OR 3 years of work experience as a Wind Technician with exposure to the respective specialty service OR

Minimum of 3 years of directly related work experience within the respective specialty field or 4 years as a Wind Technician with exposure to the respective specialty service in lieu of a degree.​

Valid Drivers License

Job Specific Skills, Knowledge or Abilities

The ability to climb turbine towers (up to 400ft) multiple times daily is a requirement of this position

Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Good written and oral communication skills in English.

Able to pass a background check and drug test.

Working Conditions

This position requires 100% travel throughout the United States and working outdoors in a wide variety of conditions and at elevation.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.

  • NCCO rigging and signalperson (or equivalent)

  • DOT Health Card

  • Class A CDL

  • Additional years of wind experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technology

  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e. voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)

  • Proficiency with electrical and hydraulic torqueing tools and tensioners.

  • Proficiency with generator alignment tools and processes.

  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements

  • Experience working with up-tower cranes.

Working Conditions

This position requires 100% travel throughout the United States and working outdoors in a wide variety of conditions and at elevation.

Compensation Package​

Estimation of Hourly Base Pay Range: $28.17 - $35.00

Grade: DEN I - J

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience.
