General Position Responsibilities:
Under direct supervisor, this position is responsible to perform general painting duties, typically outdoors.
Summer Student Work Program Guidelines
Students must be at least 18 years of age by the time they begin employment.
Students selected for the Summer Student Work Program will be expected to work 40 hours per week. Those requiring more than 40 hours of time-off during the Program, or require a work schedule of less than 40 hours per week, should not apply. Requests for time-off greater than 40 hours will not be accommodated.
All requests for time-off during the Program must be approved, and requests of greater than 8 hours should be requested as far in advance as possible. The openings are considered to be temporary, full-time positions and all time-off will be unpaid, including holidays.
The Summer Student Work Program will begin as soon as May 3, 2021 and will conclude on September 10, 2021. No summer employment will be extended beyond September 10, 2021.
Students will be limited to two (2) years of District employment, unless there is a shortage of applicants. Third-year students in rare cases will be considered, based on District need, with approval of the President. Wage: first year $12.75 per hour; second year $14.00 per hour.
First consideration will be given to students who have successfully completed one full year or more of college. College-bound students, or those with less than a full year of college level courses taken, will be considered for any remaining vacancies. All applicants must be a high school graduate or possess a General Education Diploma (GED).
Students selected for the Summer Student Work Program are required to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment.
Minimum Requirements:
Have and maintain a valid Driver’s License while in this position.
Strong organizational skills; personal initiative, attention to thoroughness, accuracy and details.
Ability to work with general supervision.
Knowledge of the District’s service area preferred.
Work inside and outside in all weather conditions and varying terrains for extended periods of time.
Ability to work in an environment which requires exposure to a variety of paints, cleaners, and solvents.
Capable of bending, stooping, and crouching throughout the work period.
Capable of lifting 5 – 15 pounds throughout the work period.
Specific Responsibilities May Include:
Prepare surfaces and apply various types of paints and epoxy coatings or other coating materials to fire hydrants, meters and various other objects.
Drive District vehicle in accordance with established District Driving and Safety policies and procedures, as well as strictly following traffic laws and ordnances.
Report all unusual conditions, events or occurrences immediately to supervisor.
Communicate with and assist customers, co-workers, and management professionally, regardless of provocation.
Comply with and understand all pertinent District policies and procedures.
Performs a variety of other duties as assigned.
