2018 Summer Student Work Program

The Metropolitan Utilities District is now accepting applications for the 2018 Summer Student Work Program. Provided below is an electronic link for interested students to complete the on-line application. This email can be forwarded to any college-bound student, including family members of District employees and Board Members.

GUIDELINES:

  • Students must be at least 18 years of age by the time they begin employment.

  • Students selected for the Summer Student Work Program will be expected to work 40 hours per week. Those requiring more than 40 hours of time-off during the Program, or require a work schedule of less than 40 hours per week, should not apply. Requests for time-off greater than 40 hours will not be accommodated. All requests for time-off during the Program must be approved, and requests of greater than 8 hours should be requested as far in advance as possible. The openings are considered to be temporary, full-time positions and all time-off will be unpaid, including holidays.

  • The Summer Student Work Program will begin as soon as April 30, 2018 and will conclude on September 14, 2018. No summer employment will be extended beyond September 14, 2018.

  • Students will be limited to two (2) years of District employment, unless there is a shortage of applicants. Third-year students in rare cases will be considered, based on District need, with approval of the President. Wage: first year $11.50 per hour; second year $12.50 per hour.

  • First consideration will be given to students who have successfully completed one full year or more of college. College-bound students, or those with less than a full year of college level courses taken, will be considered for any remaining vacancies. All applicants must be a high school graduate or possess a General Education Diploma (GED).

  • The District gives priority placement in the Summer Student Work Program to the children of employees, when possible.

  • Students selected for the Summer Student Work Program are required to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment.
