SUMMARY:

Serve as a trusted advisor to local Goodwill Chief Executive Officers. Provide consultations to Goodwill Executives in the areas of finance, human resources, business services, and board /governance training. Support CEOs through times of financial duress and assist in the development of short-term solutions to enhance cash flow while positioning for the future. Assist Goodwill Executive Leadership in developing short and long-term strategies to promote growth and provide richer services to the community.

BASIC FUNCTION:

• Provide consultations to Goodwill CEOs striving to optimize their organization, create efficient processes, enhance operating performance, to develop their boards and governance process.

• Guide Goodwill CEOs, staff, and boards through the strategic planning process to develop growth strategies, mitigate risks, utilize threats to catalyze new business opportunities. Provide the framework to develop tactical plans and balanced scorecards.

• Study the organization's current position, needs, goals, and strategies to determine what changes can be made to better serve the organization and its executive team.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Develop trusted relationships with Goodwill CEOs, understanding their needs, organization, goals and objectives to provide value-add support.

  2. Develop and maintain member profiles and assessments to inform the level and type of support required to promote member growth and enhanced performance.

  3. Provide member consultations, guidance, and support in the areas of strategic planning, board/governance, and administration (finance, HR, IT, enterprise risk).

  4. Monitor member performance for pro-active business engagement.

  5. Support the development of administrative playbooks and associated assets in the areas of finance, IT, HR, board, governance, and strategic planning.

  6. Support member CEO focus groups and roundtable conversations.

  7. Develop and facilitate relevant webinars for member CEOs based on changing external factors and member feedback.

  8. Support the effort to develop performance metrics to align local member business needs with Goodwill Industries International, Inc. (GII) products, services, and training.

  9. Comply with departmental budgets.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Partner with GII teams to enhance member support, service, and communication.

Local Goodwills: Strong trusted advisory to Goodwill CEOs, consistent communication with CEOs.

External: Contact with industry SMEs to provide insightful data members and/or purchase leverage.

SKILLS NEEDED:

  1. Strong business acumen in the areas of finance, retail, contracts, mission, strategic planning, board/governance, IT, and HR. Must be proficient in finance and accounting.

  2. Strong problem-solving and process management skills.

  3. Strong communication and time management skills.

  4. Track record of improving business performance and providing strategic direction.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration or related discipline, or combination of equivalent experience and education. Bachelor’s acceptable with extensive (10+ years) related experience in diverse, multi-cultural business environments.

EXPERIENCE:

A. Seasoned professional, strong business acumen, strategic visionary, who has held several executive business and operational roles (CEO, COO or CFO) within a Goodwill or similar industry. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced and complex changing environment.

B. Must possess strong analytic skills, with the ability to resolve complex problems. Ability to bridge the conversation from metrics to operational impact. Must be proficient in accounting and finance.

C. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively.

D. Experience in an advisory or consulting role.

E. Experience within the Goodwill network, national organization, or international complex organization is preferred.

DECISION MAKING: Ability to assess an organization and make prompt business recommendations based on analysis, organizational capacity, and strategic goals of the organization. .

SUPERVISION: Latitude is given to the position in carrying out work assignments. Work is reviewed to ensure that it is conceptually sound and meets assignment objectives.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Sedentary with lifting 50 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Walking and standing are required occasionally; long hours sitting at a desk and using a computer.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT: The w ork environment is generally usually hectic with periods of high stress. Must demonstrate a positive attitude in meeting daily challenges.
