Position Summary

WGL Energy, a WGL Entity, is looking for a Senior Business Development Manager to join our team. In this role, you are responsible to build and maintain a profitable book of business by selling electricity, natural gas, renewable energy certificates (RECs), Carbon Offsets (COs), and / or associated green energy products to Commercial, Industrial, and Public Sector customers of an assigned region of PJM, either direct or through select channel partners. Position may require up to 40% regional travel.


  • Prospect new direct / indirect electricity, natural gas, Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) and/or Carbon Offset (CO) customers within approved commercial and industrial verticals within an assigned region of PJM

  • Maintain close relationships with customers to cross sell products and improve renewal rates

  • Develop relationships with approved channel partners that increase new sales and renewal rates

  • Host and participate in WGL Energy customer/channel partner events

  • Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and events, taking an active role in speaking opportunities and panel discussions

  • Maintain accurate pipeline reporting, negotiate pricing and contract terms and conditions with external counterparties; obtain internal approvals when non-standard terms and conditions are needed, prepare proposal, pricing, and contract documents as needed

  • Ensure all sales comply with WGL Energy policies and procedures

  • Analyze industry trends and competitor activity to help build business cases for new product development and/or sales strategies

  • Be a steward of WGL Energy in the field, representing the company’s Core Values

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related discipline

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in sales, or sales related functions, with proven results

  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with external and internal stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to influence others, including peers, cross functional co-workers, and management

  • Excellent communication skills including oral presentations, writing, and data analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions quickly and effectively, often with time constraints

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and project management skills to manage multiple clients and tight timelines


  • Advanced degree

  • Energy marketing experience

  • Interest in green energy and sustainability programs
