The Clean Energy Tax Senior of Planning role brings together US federal and state compliance and tax planning to provide tax support throughout the planning, construction, development and operation of the renewable investment lifecycle. The ideal candidate is seeking a dynamic professional opportunity that includes tax technical, data analytics, transaction support, and compliance to support value optimization.

The position is primarily responsible for assuring that all aspects of tax planning for US federal and state purposes is adhered to. The role would proactively identify early-stage events to avoid value destruction and optimize economic (tax) benefits. Role will work closely with Managers of Planning, Reporting and State & Local Taxes as well as teams outside of Tax. The role supports all renewable lifecycle steps, from after initial planning to before projects are placed in service/reach commercial operations to maximize opportunities and avoiding value destruction. Role will assure that planned life cycle structuring occurs and evolves (as necessary) and that early-stage planning for sales & use, property tax, and general income tax occurs timely and is maximized as changes evolve. Role will work with Construction, Commercial, Project Development and Accounting teams to assure that hands-offs between teams are seamless and that all tax matters are optimized.

Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to think critically, take initiative, and work exceptionally well with tax and non-tax colleagues at all levels within the organization and with its owners. Role includes federal and state technical issues, ASC740 provisioning, long-term forecasting, researching, writing and reviewing critical documents and models.

The position reports to the Manager, Planning and matrix reports to the Manager, Reporting.

Qualifications of Ideal Candidates:

  • A driven curiosity to learn and apply rapidly evolving and complex tax technical concepts with a business first mindset.

  • Strong partnership tax technical (or desire to learn) and compliance expertise, and interest to further develop, through supporting M&A and renewable investment transactions in close partnership with business and tax peers, state tax exposure a plus. Experience with maintaining partner tax capital accounts, taxable income, outside tax basis and adjustments such as section 704(c) section 743, a plus.

  • Exceptional communication skills; comfort articulating complex tax issues to management and non-tax audiences with minimal preparation.

  • Exceptional self and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage evolving priorities in a dynamic work environment and willingness to step into a “do-er role” when needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or tax, Master’s degree / CPA.

  • 2 or more years of experience working on complex tax issues with a national accounting firm or a multi-national corporate tax department.
