South Jersey Industries Risk Analyst in United States

Job Summary:

A career in Risk Management and Compliance within SJI involves examining all decisions on risk management issues that directly impact the strategic direction of the company. This involves overseeing policies, processes, people and systems, partnering with business leaders to identify and mitigate financial, operational, legal, regulatory and reputational risks. Roles within this group work on developing and conducting risk assessments, documenting processes, workflows, recommendations and field work. Within SJI, this includes overseeing other areas encompassing Risk, Facilities, Security, Environmental and Insurance.

Basic Functions:

Roles within Risk include financial, strategic, operational, compliance and everyday transactional risks and advising the team on matters relating to the enablement of risk management capabilities across the spectrum of market, credit and operational risk. Roles within this group typically identify and assesses operations based on a risk framework aligned to industry standards. They also ensure appropriate mitigation of risks that exceed company’s tolerance limits. Roles are also expected to contribute to improve business performance, turning risk and compliance efforts into opportunities, and creating, enhancing and preserving value at the core of risk management efforts. Roles in Risk Management are also responsible for working with subject matter professionals in key areas of risk management to define critical gaps in capability, design a recommended future state, and outline an implementation strategy including process, data, information management, analytics, reporting and technology and managing various facets of engagement including risk management, project acceptance, billing, delivery, and collections.

Roles and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • • Independently planning and executing assigned tasks that support routine activities and project goals

  • • Helping select appropriate methods and techniques in performing tasks

  • • Collaborating with supervisory personnel to develop routine methods and demonstrating good level of understanding project goals and methods

  • • Recommending alternatives, identifying new methods and techniques and proactively seeking out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to problems

  • • Participating in group meetings. Presenting results of work, interpreting data, and drawing conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work

  • This role will be a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization. This role will resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways.

  • This role is the fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position.

  • You will work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. It is expected that you will demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

  • You will network with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.

  • It is expected that your role is proficient in most types of works within the group/project team and may act as a technical resource for less experienced employees. Additionally, it is expected that you may present results in team meetings.You will receive little instruction on day-to-day work and receive general instructions on new assignments.

  • Your role typically reports to Managers.

The level and nature of interaction of your role includes:

  • Not having supervisory responsibilities, but providing informal guidance to new team members

  • Beginning to establish recognition with lower level Associates/ Specialists as a technical resource and may act as a mentor to junior staff

  • This is a role that contributes through own efforts and application of expertise, skills, or tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience, or;

  • Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Ability to review and edit proposed contracts to ensure that all areas of financial, operational and credit risk are identified preferred

  • Knowledge of commodities markets, including natural gas is preferred
