Job Summary
The Radiation Protection Radioactive Waste Shipper is responsible for receiving, packaging and shipping radioactive materials in compliance with applicable transportation regulations including the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
Job Description
Key Accountabilties:
Receiving, packaging and shipping radioactive materials in compliance with applicable transportation regulations.
Characterizing the shipment, selecting the appropriate packaging, determining the appropriate marking, labeling & placard, and preparing the required Department of Transportation (DOT) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) documents for each shipment of radioactive material.
Ensuring compliance with disposal facility certifications and licenses and acquiring vendor licensed shipping casks/containers and certifications.
Establishing radioactive material shipping schedules and coordinating with Work Planning, Security, Maintenance, Nuclear Construction, Radiation Protection and Operations to meet shipment schedules.
Developing and maintaining the radioactive material shipping program and procedures.
Serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the development of radioactive material shipping training programs.
Maintaining On the Job Training (OJT) and Task Performance Evaluation (TPE) qualifications
Providing supervisory oversight of radiation technicians & maintenance workers performing the following job duties:
Receiving of radioactive materials
Receiving and being accountable for radioactive sources
Coordinating the sampling of highly radioactive material (e.g., resins and filters) from plant systems
Sampling radioactive waste streams for 10 CFR 61 compliance
Packaging, marking, labeling & placarding of radioactive material shipments
Management the outage radioactive material storage program, including seavan storage.
Providing outage support and serving as the Radioactive Material Shipping Coordinator.
Supporting the Corrective Action Program, as assigned.
Performing Emergency Response Organization duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Skills:
High school diploma or GED AND a minimum of 3 years related professional-level experience in the nuclear industry required.
In lieu of the professional-level experience, an Associate's degree in a technical discipline AND a minimum of 3 years Radiation Protection experience in a commercial, Naval or Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear facility is required.
Must exhibit a high degree of nuclear professionalism and nuclear safety conscious.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word. Experience with SAP preferred.
Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to adapt to varying audiences.
Must reside within site-specific ERO response time.
* Final pay grade/level will be determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications. *
