Job Summary

This position will provide engineering for the design of substation facilities for voltages up to and including 500 kV. Projects may be for the interconnection of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewable generation, solar, wind, or other Distributed Energy Resources (DER). This includes new substations and switch yards, modifications, additions, and upgrades to existing facilities. Substation physical design responsibilities include overall engineering and analysis for new switch yards and substations, additions, and modifications. Includes equipment specifications and procurement support, layout and general arrangements for all major equipment and structures required for high voltage switch yards or substation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed design including:

  • General Arrangements

  • Plan Views and Elevation Views

  • Grounding Plans

  • Cable, trenwa, and conduit plans

  • Bill of Materials

  • Structural Design

  • Foundation Design

  • Technical Support, including:

  • Procurement

  • Construction Documentation

  • Working and coordinating with other engineers

  • Track emerging engineering technologies and standards to improve design efficiencies and quality

  • Participate in industry organizations to stay current with business trends

  • Setting and maintaining technical and safety practices

  • Ensuring project schedules and goals are met

  • Working with other engineering teams to meet customer requirements

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Significant experience in the Electric Utility arena

  • Four-year engineering or technical degree

  • Computer proficient including AutoCAD

Preferred

  • 5 + years of relevant design experience in Substation Engineering

  • PE License

  • Experience with civil and structural design software, Revit, RISA and ETABS

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners.
