Generation is organised around its physical assets. These include gas and, as a company with an acute sense of the bigger picture, other forward thinking ways of providing power such as hydro-electric power stations, CCGT power stations and our Daldowie sludge processing plant near Glasgow, which manufactures fuel pellets from sewage sludge.
The role of Mechanical Engineer sits within the Mechanical Engineering Team at Cruachan Power Station, reporting to the Engineering Manager.
About the Role
As Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the inspection and maintenance of all mechanical plant and associated systems to ensure that plant meets all statutory and legislative requirements and remains efficient andreliable to maximise opportunities for commercial running. This is a varied role and in addition to routine inspection and maintenance, you will have the opportunity to support the Engineering Manager in delivering capital projects and major overhauls, including the possibility of being involved in the Cruachan Hydro Power Station expansion project, which will double the current generating capacity. You will also support the business strategic drivers by
delivering Goals and KPI’s for all relevant budgetary, plant performance, operational compliance and people management targets.
With a minimum of an HNC in a mechanical engineering or related discipline, you will bring industrial experience to the role in plant operations, maintenance or project management, preferably gained in a multi-disciplinary team environment. You will also hold a current UK driving license in order to drive company vehicles for work purposes.
You will have a flexible approach to work over a wide range of work areas and equipment, as well as a willingness to provide weekend shift cover, standby cover and bank holiday working and to respond to call outs outside normalworking hours for operational, maintenance or other business requirements where required. You will also be comfortable working in all weather conditions for long periods, working at heights, in confined spaces, climbing and descending vertical access ladders, lone working, manual handling and working near water courses. Ideally, candidates will live or be prepared to relocate near to Cruachan Power Station, in order to provide flexible work cover.
