Position Summary

WGL Energy, a WGL Entity, is looking for a Mass Market Business Developer to join our team. In this role you will build and maintain a profitable book of business by selling electricity, natural gas, renewable energy certificates (RECs) and/or Carbon Offsets (COs) to residential and small commercial customers of an assigned region of PJM through third-party affinity programs, vendors, and/or channel partners, as well as individual sales activities that support achieving overall Mass Market sales goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with affinity program providers, sales and marketing vendors, and/or channel partners to effectively and efficiently build a book of business that complies with all company policies and public utility commission rules and regulations

  • Develop programs that maintain relationships with customers to cross sell products and improve renewal rates

  • Host and participate in WGL Energy customer events

  • Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and events, taking an active role in speaking opportunities and panel discussions

  • Maintain accurate lead lists and sales reporting, ensuring all sales comply with WGL Energy policies and procedures

  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms and conditions with external counterparties, ensuring all internal approvals are obtained

  • Analyze industry and competitor activity to help build business cases for new product development and/or sales strategies

  • Support public utility commission investigations and follow ups as needed

  • Be a steward of WGL Energy in the field, representing the company’s Core Values

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related discipline

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in sales, or sales related functions, with proven results

  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with external and internal stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to influence others, including peers, cross functional co-workers, and management

  • Excellent communication skills including oral presentations, writing, and data interpretation

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions quickly and effectively, often with time constraints

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and project management skills to manage multiple clients and tight timelines

Preferred

  • Advanced degree

  • Energy marketing experience

  • Interest in green energy and sustainability programs
