Generation is organised around its physical assets. Lanark Hydro – Electric Scheme
A vacancy has arisen for an EC&I; Craftsperson at Stonebyres Power Station, which is part of the Lanark Hydro- Electric Scheme.
The Lanark Hydro-Electric Scheme, on the banks of the River Clyde in Lanarkshire, dates back to 1926 and is believed to be the oldest hydro-electric plant in the UK electricity industry. Although the output is relatively small, the scheme has proven to be a reliable, flexible generator of clean, renewable electricity and a valuable asset in ScottishPower’s generating portfolio.
The scheme harnesses the power of three spectacular waterfalls, collectively known as the Falls of Clyde, near Lanark. The scheme has two stations, Bonnington (11 MW) and Stonebyres (6 MW), which were developed by the Clyde Valley Electrical Power Company to meet demand for electricity in Lanarkshire after the First World War.Together, the stations can generate 17 MW – enough electricity to supply approximately 17,000 homes.
A vacancy has arisen for an EC&I; Craftsperson at Lanark Hydros, reporting to the Production Engineer. As an EC&I; Craftsperson, your main focus will be to support the Production Engineer with routine plant operations, inspection and maintenance of the sites Electrical, Control & Instrumentation systems to ensure that plant meets all statutory and legislative requirements and remains efficient and reliable to maximise opportunities for commercial running.
Ideally, you will be educated to minimum ONC/HNC level or equivalent in an Electrical or C&I; engineering discipline and will have Industrial experience in plant operations and maintenance within a multi-disciplinary team. You will have a flexible approach to work over a wide range of work areas and equipment, as well as a willingness to provide weekend shift cover, standby cover and bank holiday working and to respond to call outs outside normal working hours for operational, maintenance or other business requirements where required. You will also be comfortable working in all weather conditions for long periods, working at heights, in confined spaces, climbing and descending vertical access ladders, lone working, manual handling and working near water courses. Ideally, candidates will live or relocate to within a 50 minute drive of the Lanark Hydro Scheme, in order to provide flexible work cover.
