This job's primary focus will be hydro turbines. 25% travel required.

Job Summary

Serves as a technical expert in the field of turbines and processes for the for Coal, Gas & Hydro fossil plants. Performs and directs studies to evaluate the effects of modifications, deterioration, deletions, and additions to major systems and equipment. Assists production units in resolution of equipment and system problems including trouble shooting problem areas as requested. Serves as lead for process development for electrical testing.

As work needs dictate, perform or directs cross-discipline engineering work to optimize performance of plant equipment, apparatus, and facilities for turbine and rotating equipment systems at all Coal, Gas & Hydro fossil generating plants. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring, analysis, evaluation, and investigation of plant systems, processes, and equipment. Initiates improvements to optimize achievement of plant, fleet, and/or system business plan objectives. Ensures that performance gaps and other problems at a particular location are investigated at other locations having similar equipment and systems. Ensures fleet system wide replication of solutions and standardization as appropriate.

May serve as project engineer for assigned projects, including large, cross-discipline, and more complex projects. Serves as technical advisor to the project team on turbines and rotating equipment projects in establishing and accomplishing valid requirements.

Provides direct administrative and technical supervision to engineers and support personnel.

Other duties as assigned by supervision.

Supervision Received

Supervision and guidance is provided by the first-line manager and is generally limited to overall objectives, general guidelines and policy, and work priorities. The incumbent plans and executes the work with minimal supervision.

Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)

Proficient in site/field engineering for Coal, Gas, Hydro Power Plant Systems and Equipment; Plant Operations and Maintenance; Industry Standards and Codes; Plan and direct testing; Spreadsheet, Graphics, SYNTHA, etc Software; Problem Solving & Analysis, i.e. Root Cause, FMEA/EMEA, Fault Tree, Weibull, etc.; Project Management, Construction Processes, Teamwork; Communication and Interpersonal; Initiative.

Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school. Mechanical or Electrical concentration.

  • Full competence as a System Engineer as demonstrated by several years’ experience at senior level as a System Engineer or Discipline Engineer.

    License as a Professional Engineer is highly desirable
