Distribution System Operator (1 Opening) Business Unit: Electric System Operations Job
Job Overview Position Description:
Directs the field crews and controls the switching of the UI Distribution system in-line with corporate safety and reliability goals and objectives and other Company policies and Dept. processes and procedures. This position is responsive to customer’s needs and must balance customer need for quality and timeliness with cost efficiency and other resource constraints. Generally, this position works dependently on the major responsibilities of this position.
Analyze customer outages and trouble reports. Working with the field crews, initiate actions to isolate trouble areas. Continuously maintain the highest level of safety to ensure people’s lives are never threatened or placed in jeopardy.
Provide effective customer assistance after hours, weekends, and holidays for customer inquiry calls, service interruptions and personalized assistance to major customers (hotline customers) as well as effective response to police and fire calls.
Ensure that System Operations records, logs, operating instructions and procedures of the distribution electric system are accurate and up to date.
Follow switching and tagging procedures, direct switching and tagging operations and issue clearances to appropriate personnel working on electric system equipment.
Evaluate distribution system disturbance data, determine, initiate and coordinate corrective actions required to restore the system to its normal operation.
Evaluate switching requests and develop switching and tagging orders for distribution electric system equipment in accordance with operating capabilities for work of moderate levels of complexity.
Communicate operational and disturbance events and problems with system and maintenance engineers and all other personnel, as appropriate.
Monitor and effectively respond to mobile (2-way) radio, landline telephones and substation radio communications required to operate the electric system and to support other company processes. Education, Experience and Other Day-One Qualifications Required for Selection:Eight years of relevant experience in electrical distribution and/or transmission fields. Progression from Distribution System Operator to Senior Distribution System Operator is a period of two years. Must pass the System Operator/Power DispatcherTest Battery.
This is a rotating shift position and must be available for 24/7 coverage. Individuals in this department are required to complete annual CIP training as well as abiding by all CIP requirements. This position performs their job mainly using SCADA and Outage Management Systems as well as required computer programs. In addition, they also utilize the Transmission/Distribution Video Schematic and normal office equipment in a dispatch office environment.
