APS - Business Analyst I/II - Resource Management The electric power industry is evolving and changing fast. Power markets are evolving quickly, expanding beyond energy imbalance markets to regional trading markets. Besides solar, wind power and many other renewable energy sources, there are many exciting new distributed energy sources. Large-scale battery storage is quickly becoming an essential part of your system. These market trends require new trading strategies and operating models. Our fast-paced, dynamic trading and operations support group is seeking a Power Systems Forecasting and Modeling Analyst to develop sophisticated solutions to a variety of challenging problems of integrating new distributed energy resources into our diverse portfolio of existing generating resources. This role performs a wide variety of analysis on topics that may include day ahead, real time and forward market costs, forecasting for system load, weather and renewable energy production, generation modeling, gas storage and pipeline management. In addition, this role will support in planning various generation resources to serve customer load while considering the impacts to reliability and economics. This role directly supports our Day Ahead and Short-Term Traders. In fact, this high visibility role has multiple paths for advancement. Experience providing analytic support to Day Ahead or Real Time trading operations is desired, but not essential. Experience with Power Costs GenPortal, GenManager and GenTrader or similar dispatch optimization models is preferred, but not essential. Minimum Requirements for Level I * BS/BA Degree in business, engineering, economics, finance, information technology, mathematics, physics or similar quantitative field * PLUS two (2) years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, and electric-utility experience. * Basic knowledge of economic principles associated with power plant dispatch and be detail oriented. * Strong research and effective communication skills are necessary. * Effective word processing and spreadsheet skills are essential. * Time constraints, scope and complexity are commensurate with the beginning level. Minimum Requirements for Level II * BS/BA Degree in business, engineering, economics, finance, information technology, mathematics, physics or similar quantitative field * PLUS four (4) years related business analytics experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with demonstrated comparable knowledge and abilities. * Must have good communication, presentation and writing skills. * Knowledge of principles of economic unit commitment/dispatch, wholesale market operations and the functional and economic characteristics of Company power resources and the interconnected system is desired. * Basic knowledge of natural gas markets including contracts, and utilization within a power plant. * Proficient computer skills including a thorough knowledge of a commonly used industry programming language to modify large data sets and extensive experience in the applied use of Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Access, and Word is desired. * This position may rotate through various areas of Marketing and Trading and, depending upon the area, could involve work shifts that are different from normal business hours. Certain departments may require ability to work rotating on call shifts, as business needs require.
