The BESS Solutions Engineer will be a lead contributor to the engineering of energy storage products for AES. They will provide guidance on the selection of battery technology, thermal management, safety equipment, and all other systems required to develop AC-coupled, DC-coupled, and stand-alone utility-scale energy storage products. The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of energy storage systems required to drive innovation and improvement to AES plant designs, evaluate new technologies and support testing of new energy storage prototype designs. The Solutions Engineer will work closely with key suppliers to track product offerings and ensure optimal component selections enabling AES to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-competitive energy storage solutions. This is an opportunity to work through interesting technical problems, play a key role in shaping AES’s energy storage strategy, analyze and test new technologies, and ultimately advance the goal of reaching a 100% clean energy future.

Key responsibilities include :

  • BESS equipment supplier engagement.

  • Specify and coordinate development of BESS product solutions that meet project performance and lifetime requirements.

  • Engage with 3rd party engineering and manufacturing partners to plan scopes of work, drive design decisions, and ensure timely receipt of contracted deliverables.

  • Ensure compliance of codes and standards required for new BESS product deployment in various regions.

  • Develop, document, and deliver technical guidance to Project Development and Execution Engineering teams.

  • Develop technical materials for new BESS products including installation manuals, data sheets, safety evaluations, and other materials required for permitting and construction.

  • Manage document library for BESS specific technical documentation.

  • Manage integration of new BESS product information into AES Approved Product List.

  • Plan and lead BESS validation testing and analyze resulting measurements

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in physics, engineering, or equivalent technical field

  • 6+ years professional experience in Energy Storage system design, development, construction, deployment, and analysis preferred

  • Excellent working knowledge and understanding of Energy Storage integration with renewable energy systems

  • Familiarity with codes and standards for stationary energy storage systems (especially UL 9540 and NFPA 855)

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to work with and communicate effectively (including listening) across a diverse set of engineering, operations, and supply chain teams at AES as well as develop reports and presentations explaining technology evaluations and scoring, root cause analyses, etc.

  • Good organizational skills

  • Hard-working and sense of ownership over creating energy storage solutions

Location :

The position is in Louisville, CO and may include up to 20% travel to project locations and international partner locations. Remotely working is a possibility depending on the candidate.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $90,000 and $110,500/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
