The year-long IT internship position is for presently enrolled college students seeking to increase their knowledge and skills in the Information Technology field. The intern will participate on a team that supports the IT needs of Duke Energy’s Nuclear power plants, gaining invaluable on-the-job experience in both application development and support. They will also gain familiarity with the organization and the company’s business operations by networking with other Interns and more senior level employees, as well as honing their own skills for future, practical application.
This position will be a year-long position starting in January 2022. During the Spring and Fall semesters, this role will be part-time with flexible hours to work around the intern’s class schedule and coursework. During the summer, the hours can increase to 40 hrs/week based on availability.
Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75
Currently enrolled and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an IT or Engineering related major, such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Mathematics , Software Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
Valid driver's license
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Interest in application development and customer support is needed for this role. Some education or experience with a programming language is desired, however which specific language is unimportant. This team utilizes several different technologies (Angular, Java, .NET Core, SSIS, Groovy Script, etc.), including some vendor proprietary tools. On the job training via paired programming and/or computer-based training will be available to help develop skillsets as needed.
Two or fewer years of full time IT or Engineering work experience
Leadership potential or skills displayed through extracurricular activities
Ability to excel in a variety of roles
Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills
Previous IT or Engineering internship or co-op experience
Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
Community service, volunteer experience
Self-driven, motivated, and proactive
- Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility.
